Viewers Are Furious Over the New Explicit Scenes in ‘Euphoria’: “They Really Went Too Far”
Season three of ‘Euphoria’ has been no stranger to controversy, but it seems things just hit a new level. The fourth episode of the show’s third and final season, titled “Kitty Likes to Dance,” has left audiences deeply divided, with many taking to social media to express outrage over what they are calling the most explicit content the series has ever aired. Sydney Sweeney’s character Cassie is at the center of it all, and the online reaction has been swift and unforgiving. Whether you love or hate the direction the show is heading, one thing is clear, ‘Euphoria’ is not done shocking its audience.
The episode picks up in the chaotic aftermath of Cassie’s wedding night. Her husband Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, was brutally attacked by a loan shark and lost part of his foot in the process. As Cassie tries to hold herself together, the full scale of the crisis sets in when she learns that Nate owes around one million dollars. Feeling trapped and overwhelmed, she tries to stay positive, but the dream of a perfect life has clearly crumbled around her. In a desperate bid to solve the financial disaster, she makes the decision to revive her OnlyFans account and start creating fetish content, while also selling her wedding ring and moving into her own apartment.
Searching for guidance and a fresh start, Cassie reaches out to Nate’s ex-girlfriend Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie. Maddy takes Cassie under her wing and puts her through a full transformation, complete with platinum blonde hair and a brand-new image built for social media. The two end up at a party hosted by influencer Brandon Fontaine, played by Jeff Wahlberg, where Cassie attempts to grow her online following. The evening spirals into a series of provocative moments, including a kiss with another woman and a later intimate encounter in a private room.
It is not just this single episode fueling the backlash, though. Earlier in the season, Cassie appeared completely nude in multiple scenes, including one where she holds a melting ice cream cone over her body, another where she poses in a wet, near-transparent American flag-patterned dress, and a third where she is nude wearing only a baseball cap, shin guards, and shoes.

However, the scene that truly pushed viewers over the edge featured Cassie with a pacifier in her mouth, her hair tied in pigtails, dressed in clothing that resembled children’s attire. Many people online accused the show’s creator Sam Levinson of deliberately incorporating disturbing fetish content into the storyline.
One user on X wrote that Levinson was “weird” for coming up with such material, and questioned why Sweeney agreed to take the role in the first place. Another commenter stated that it was “unbelievable” that no one was taking the content seriously.

Of course, not everyone is outraged. A segment of viewers has pushed back against the criticism, arguing that people are overreacting to what is ultimately a fictional television show. Some pointed out that anyone uncomfortable with the content is free to stop watching.
The split in opinion has only intensified the conversation around where ‘Euphoria’ is headed in its final stretch. Season three consists of eight episodes airing every Sunday, with the finale scheduled for May 31st. Whether the remaining episodes offer any deeper narrative payoff for everything that has come before remains to be seen. Fans who stuck with the show through its darker earlier seasons are now genuinely questioning whether the shock value serves the story or simply exists for its own sake.
If you have been following along this season, we would love to hear what you think about where ‘Euphoria’ is taking Cassie’s story and whether the explicit content feels justified or excessive, so share your thoughts in the comments.
