Viral Minnesota Mugshot Has the Internet Doing a Double Take Over Jennifer Lopez Lookalike
A Minnesota woman’s mugshot has suddenly become a major topic online, but not because of the arrest itself. Instead, social media users were shocked by how much 35-year-old Cyrena Anne Quast reminded them of Jennifer Lopez.
Quast was arrested in August in connection with an alleged shoplifting case in Monticello, Minnesota. According to a criminal complaint obtained by The Watch MN, police arrested her on August 30 after she was accused of stealing two double packs of power tool batteries from a local store. The batteries were reportedly worth around $580.
The case might have remained a small local story if it were not for Quast’s booking photo. Once the mugshot started spreading online, people quickly noticed what they believed was a striking resemblance to Lopez. The reaction was almost immediate, with users sharing the photo, making jokes, and comparing Quast to the famous singer and actress.
According to the criminal complaint, a store employee allegedly recognized Quast from another theft that had happened two days earlier. Police were contacted, and authorities later questioned Quast about the reported incident. The complaint says she admitted to taking the battery packs. Online arrest records show that Quast was booked on a gross misdemeanor theft charge. The Daily Mail reported that she was released the following day.
While those details explain why the photo exists, they are not what caught most people’s attention. Once the image appeared online, the conversation quickly shifted toward Lopez. Some users said they actually thought the picture was of the singer when they first saw it. One person wrote, “For a moment I thought it was jlo lmao,” while another joked, “There’s a glitch in the matrix lol.”
The Lopez comparisons then took an even more playful turn. Since one of the singer’s most famous songs is “Jenny from the Block,” social media users quickly started changing the lyrics and coming up with jokes based on the circumstances of Quast’s arrest.

One person wrote, “In prison she’s known as Jenny from D-Block!” Another joked, “Jenny been walking the block too much.” A third commenter added, “She’s definitely still Jenny from the block.”
One particularly excited Lopez fan even called on the star herself to investigate the resemblance. “JENNIFER IF YOU DON’T COME CLAIM YOUR SISTER RIGHT NEEOWWWWWWWW & DO THIS DNA TESTTTT. Do it for us. dis yo sistaaaaa gurlllllllllll,” the user wrote.
There is, of course, no evidence that Quast and Lopez are related. The connection exists only in the eyes of internet users who noticed similarities between the two women. Lopez has not been reported to have any connection to the Minnesota case either.
The Watch MN identified Quast as a Saint Cloud native, while the Daily Mail reported on her release following the arrest. The legal case itself remains separate from the viral reaction to her appearance.
This is also a good example of how quickly a routine local news story can take on a completely different life online. A booking photo that would normally be seen by only a small number of people ended up being shared far beyond Minnesota because users thought the woman looked like one of the biggest stars in entertainment.
The comparisons have continued to spread because the resemblance is unusual enough to make people look twice. For some users, the similarities are strong enough to make the mugshot look almost like an unexpected photo of Lopez.
For now, though, Quast remains a Minnesota woman at the center of an alleged theft case, while Jennifer Lopez remains Jennifer Lopez. The two are not known to be connected. The internet simply saw one surprising resemblance and turned it into a viral moment, complete with “Jenny from the Block” jokes.
It is the kind of strange story that social media can create almost overnight: a local arrest becomes a national talking point, not because of the case, but because thousands of people suddenly believe they have spotted J.Lo in an unexpected place.
Do you think this viral mugshot really looks like Jennifer Lopez?
