‘VisionQuest’ Hits a New Peak as Its Latest Episode Becomes the Show’s Highest-Rated Yet
Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest’ has given Paul Bettany one of the biggest showcases of his MCU career. Created by showrunner Terry Matalas, the Disney+ series follows the synthetic hero through an 8-episode season that has drawn strong praise from fans, some of whom have called it a masterpiece.
The show premiered on October 13 with 2 episodes and released new episodes in weekly batches. The final 2 episodes are getting solo releases, with the finale arriving on November 10.
The penultimate chapter has made a big impression. As MCU Film News shared, ‘VisionQuest’ Episode 7 has earned an 8.8 rating on IMDb, making it the highest-rated episode of the series so far. The episode, titled “Immolation,” arrived on Disney+ on November 3. Matalas directed it from a script by Matthew Okumura.
Its rating suggests the season is building to a strong finish. Fans have been sharing their excitement online as the countdown to the finale begins. The episode takes a more personal approach than a typical superhero story. The mysterious Client invites Vision and Jo on spirit quests into their subconscious memories, where they confront their pasts.
Vision searches for source code that could save Lisa, while Jo investigates the mysterious sixth partner at her company. The episode ends on a cliffhanger involving the Client that sets up the finale.

Reviewers have praised Bettany’s performance in particular. The A.V. Club’s Sam Barsanti called the episode a showcase for the actor and singled out a breakdown scene as especially powerful.
Barsanti also praised the episode’s take on artificial intelligence and fatherhood, describing it as a unifying idea across the MCU’s AI characters. He did find the subplot involving Ultron and Jocasta weaker than the main story.

Caroline Siede of Episodic Medium highlighted the episode’s stellar visuals, top-notch performances, and interesting ideas. She felt it was slightly less emotionally affecting than intended, but her review was still largely positive.
Bettany leads a cast filled with familiar and new AI characters. James Spader returns as Ultron, while T’Nia Miller plays Jocasta and Todd Stashwick plays Paladin. The series also features Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., and James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S. Ruaridh Mollica plays Tommy Maximoff, and Lauren Morais appears as Lisa Molinari.
That mix of characters lets the show explore what it means to be a synthetic being in the MCU. Episode 7’s focus on Vision’s inner world appears to have brought those ideas to the forefront.
With only 1 episode left, the pressure is now on the finale to deliver. Episode 7’s high rating sets a high bar, especially after its cliffhanger. Fans are eager to see how Vision’s journey ends and what the Client’s reveal means for the MCU’s future. The story’s closing chapter arrives on Disney+ next week.

‘VisionQuest’ has become one of Marvel’s most talked-about Disney+ series in recent memory. Its blend of emotional storytelling, eerie visuals, and strong performances has clearly connected with audiences. If the finale lands as well as Episode 7, the series could end up among the best-reviewed shows in the MCU.
