‘VisionQuest’ Star Paul Bettany Reveals He Once Left the Entire ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Script on a Plane
Marvel Studios is famous for guarding its secrets, and the stories of how far it goes to protect its scripts have become legendary. The cast of 2015’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ revealed that script pages had to be shredded every day on set, and the studio reportedly avoids emailing scripts altogether, opting instead to have a security guard deliver them by hand.
Paul Bettany knows that world better than most. His MCU journey began with voicing J.A.R.V.I.S. in 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ before he went on to play Vision, and he’s now headlining the new Disney+ series ‘VisionQuest’.
While promoting ‘VisionQuest’ on Virgin Radio UK’s ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’, Bettany made a confession that likely made Marvel executives sweat. He admitted that he once left the entire script for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ on a plane, a story he said he had never shared before.
Bettany explained that the realization didn’t hit him until he had already gotten off the flight and was sitting in his car. That was the moment panic set in. Luckily, Bettany had help close at hand. He described an airport greeter as a genius who went back in and retrieved the script for him.
To show his gratitude, the actor said he tipped the greeter around $500. Bettany didn’t reveal which flight or airport was involved, or whether anyone had looked at the pages in the meantime.

The confession came as Bettany sat alongside ‘VisionQuest’ co-star Emily Hampshire, who plays the AI E.D.I.T.H. in the series. Hampshire had just joked that joining the MCU felt like entering a witness protection program because of its strict secrecy.

She explained that on ‘VisionQuest’, actors had to hand back their daily sides at the end of each shoot, and that Marvel would send someone to collect them if they didn’t. Hampshire admitted she didn’t initially realize how precious those pages were and may have thrown some away.
This isn’t the only unusual ‘Infinity War’ script story Bettany has shared. He has previously described receiving versions of the script that weren’t the story he would actually be filming.

According to Bettany, when the Russo brothers asked him to read the real version, he ended up receiving the same fake script again. It’s a perfect example of just how tightly Marvel controlled information around the film.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’, released in 2018, became a defining moment for the MCU, bringing heroes from across the franchise together for a devastating showdown with Thanos. A leaked script could have spoiled some of the biggest surprises in the studio’s history.

That makes Bettany’s lucky escape all the more remarkable. Had the pages fallen into the wrong hands, the fallout could have been enormous. These days, Bettany is focused on a new adventure as ‘VisionQuest’ brings his long-running character into a fresh story.
The series premiered on Disney+ on October 14 and serves as the final chapter of the ‘WandaVision’ trilogy. As the promotional tour continues, fans can likely expect more behind-the-scenes anecdotes from Bettany and his co-stars. Based on this story, they have plenty of entertaining tales to tell.
What do you think of Paul Bettany accidentally leaving the entire Avengers: Infinity War script on a plane?
