Wagner Moura Finally Breaks Silence On Those Mister Sinister Casting Whispers

Marvel’s mutant reboot has been the industry’s favorite guessing game for months, with fans treating every casting rumor like a puzzle piece in a much bigger picture. Between confirmed additions and whispered names still floating around social media, the ‘X-Men’ project from director Jake Schreier has become one of the most speculated upon films in franchise history.

Marvel Studios has spent years laying the groundwork for its mutant saga, and the pieces are reportedly snapping into place faster than expected, with Kit Connor recently landing the role of Cyclops and Samara Weaving tied to Emma Frost. But one name that kept resurfacing in a very different context was Wagner Moura, the Brazilian actor whose star has been rising fast, and whose connection to a certain shadowy X-Men villain refused to go away.

That villain is Mister Sinister, and the rumors linking Moura to the role have been circulating for weeks. Now, in comments shared by MCU Film News on X, Moura has directly addressed the chatter himself, telling ScreenRant that nobody from Marvel has actually reached out to him about playing the character.

Moura told the outlet that he has been reading these things on the internet and that people keep sending them to him, making clear the speculation did not originate from any conversation with the studio. He was candid about where his head is at when it comes to the character and the wider mutant mythology.

‘I’m a fan of that whole entire universe, especially when I was a kid reading all those graphic novels and everything,’ Moura said in the interview with ScreenRant. He followed that up by shutting down the idea that anything is official, stressing that no one has contacted him, while still admitting he would jump at the chance if it ever became real.

Do you think Wagner Moura is just keeping his lips tight?

Mister Sinister has been one of the most persistent names attached to Marvel’s mutant relaunch, a character rooted in twisted genetic experimentation and a long history of tormenting the X-Men in the comics. Given how closely his comic storylines intertwine with Jean Grey and Scott Summers, both of whom are already confirmed to exist in the MCU through Sadie Sink and Kit Connor’s castings, it is easy to see why fans latched onto the idea of Moura as the film’s central threat.

For now, though, the actor’s own words put the rumor firmly in the unconfirmed category, even as his enthusiasm keeps the door open. With Schreier’s ‘X-Men’ still filling out its roster and casting news breaking on what feels like a weekly basis, it is easy to see why a comment like this spreads so fast among fans hungry for any scrap of confirmation.

Would Wagner Moura’s charisma make him the perfect Mister Sinister, or does his admission that Marvel has gone quiet mean fans should start looking elsewhere for their villain.
