Warner Bros. Discovery Is Splitting in Two — Here’s What’s Changing
Warner Bros. Discovery is getting ready to split into two separate companies, and the changes are expected to be finished by the middle of 2026. The company recently shared details about the new corporate names and the top leaders for each new business.
One of the new companies will be called Warner Bros. It will include Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, HBO Max, and Warner Bros. Gaming Studios, along with all their film and TV libraries.
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, they chose this name to honor “more than a century of industry-defining storytelling.”
The other company will be named Discovery Global. This will cover WBD’s entertainment, sports, and news TV brands all around the world.
It includes CNN, TNT Sports in the U.S., Discovery channels in Europe, and digital platforms like Discovery+ and Bleacher Report (B/R). The name Discovery Global was picked because of “the affinity and value this name has around the world in entertainment, news and sports,” according to the company.
David Zaslav, who is currently the president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, will lead Warner Bros. as president and CEO. Gunnar Wiedenfels, currently the company’s CFO, will be president and CEO of Discovery Global.
Warner Bros. is already looking for a new CFO and a head of human resources. Meanwhile, Discovery Global is searching for someone to fill the role of chief communications and public affairs officer.
Zaslav shared a statement about the future of Warner Bros., saying, “We will proudly continue the more than century-long legacy of Warner Bros. through our commitment to bringing culture-defining stories, characters and entertainment to audiences around the world.”
He added that the company has made big progress recently by launching a global streaming service and strengthening their studios. He said Warner Bros. is in a strong position to grow and “launch and continue to meaningfully grow a company worthy of our storied past.”
The article from Warner Bros. Discovery also gave information about the leadership teams for both companies. Warner Bros. will have top executives including Pam Abdy, Priya Aiyar, Casey Bloys, James Gunn, and others in key roles.
Discovery Global’s leadership includes David Duvall, Amy Girdwood, Kasia Kieli, Mark Thompson, and more.
Wiedenfels spoke about the new Discovery Global company, saying, “As we prepare for the launch of Discovery Global, our enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead only grows thanks to our leading portfolio of beloved brands and programming, our worldwide footprint for adults, kids, and families, and now the experienced and talented leadership team who will ensure strong operational execution to drive strategic investments and deliver compelling content to global audiences.”
This information was shared by Warner Bros. Discovery as part of their official announcement about the company split and the future plans for both new businesses.
