Marvel Studios has just released the first trailer for its upcoming animated series, Marvel Zombies, and fans are already buzzing.

The series will air on Disney+ starting September 24, and will be part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will be the 16th TV series from Marvel Studios and its first animated show rated TV-MA.

The story picks up from the 2021 What If…? episode “What If… Zombies?!”. In this timeline, a virus has turned most of the world’s population, including many Avengers, into zombies. The show follows a group of survivors who are trying to stop the zombie outbreak and save humanity.

Zeb Wells created Marvel Zombies and is the head writer, while Bryan Andrews is the showrunner and director. The series uses the same animation style as What If…? and is being produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with Stellar Creative Lab returning to handle the animation work.

The series features a large cast of returning Marvel actors. Awkwafina voices Katy, David Harbour returns as Red Guardian, and Simu Liu is Shang-Chi, who was bitten by a zombie but keeps the infection from spreading with the Ten Rings.

Elizabeth Olsen is back as a zombie Scarlet Witch, and Florence Pugh voices Yelena Belova. Paul Rudd reprises his role as Ant-Man, whose still-living head is preserved in a jar after being cured from the infection. Other stars include Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Dominique Thorne as Ironheart, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan.

Vellani said her character is central to the story, and the creators described her as “the Frodo of the story.” Todd Williams also joins as Blade Knight, a half-vampire hero. Hudson Thames returns as Spider-Man, and other familiar heroes like Captain America, Hawkeye, and Captain Marvel appear as zombies.

Marvel Zombies will have four episodes. The show was first announced in late 2021, alongside other animated projects that Marvel Studios was developing after What If…?

The new trailer gives fans their first look at the dark and intense world of the series. With heroes turned into monsters and survivors fighting for their lives, Marvel Zombies promises action, suspense, and plenty of surprises.
