During his visit, Cena shared a brand-new clip from the upcoming episodes. In the scene, Peacemaker finds himself staring down the barrel of a gun held by an alternate version of himself. He tries to escape, but his double chases him down, and the two end up in a brawl. It’s a quick scene, but it gives a taste of the action and chaotic humor that’s coming.

The new season will once again follow Chris Smith after the events of the upcoming DCU film Superman. This time, the story takes place in the DC Universe, which is a soft reboot of the older DCEU. James Gunn is back as showrunner and will write and direct all eight episodes. The cast features John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Tim Meadows, and Michael Rooker.
Production had a few delays. It was first planned to start in 2023, but Gunn’s move to co-CEO of DC Studios shifted his focus to Superman. The spin-off series Waller was also delayed, so Gunn put Peacemaker season 2 back at the front of the schedule. Filming began in April 2024 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, running from June to November.
The season is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the New York premiere, Gunn explained how important this season is to the DCU. “It’s a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker; it should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important.”
Gunn also promised plenty of familiar and fresh faces. “Lots of guest stars coming up, lots of characters that are showing up that we’ve already met in Superman. I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker, so I’m so excited for people to see it.”
