Spider-Man is getting ready for another big-screen return with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film will be the fourth in the MCU’s Spider-Man series and the 38th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie overall. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios are producing it together, with Sony Pictures releasing it in theaters.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing, and the script is by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who also wrote the earlier Spider-Man movies. Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, joined by Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando.

Plans for the movie go back to 2019, even before the release of No Way Home. Producer Amy Pascal confirmed in 2021 that it would start a brand-new trilogy for Holland’s Spider-Man. Writing began that December, and Cretton officially signed on as director in October 2024. The title was revealed in March 2025, and filming started in August of the same year. It’s set to hit theaters in the United States on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.

A short teaser has already been shared, showing Holland on what he called his “fourth day one” of filming. The actor said the atmosphere was amazing, with fans watching from the very first day on set. He was seen chatting with young fans and goofing around with co-stars. Laughing about the challenges of shooting in the middle of a busy city instead of in a studio, he added, “no pressure.”

Filming began in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 3, 2025, under the working title Blue Oasis. Cinematographer Brett Pawlak, who has worked with Cretton before, returned for this project. Holland said he was excited to get back to location shooting, which reminded him of working on Homecoming, after No Way Home had been shot mostly on soundstages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scenes were filmed in areas like Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate, which doubled for New York City.

Reports from Total Film noted that some armored vehicles on set had a red demon logo similar to the Inner Demons gang from the comics, hinting at a possible appearance by the villain Mister Negative. Glasgow World also reported spotting a rhino-shaped bust on set, which could point to the character Rhino being part of the film.

On August 7, filming moved to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, London, before returning to Glasgow, where production was extended until August 26. After that, shooting will continue at Pinewood Studios in England for the soundstage work.
