‘West Side Story’ Star Kyle Allen To Play He-Man In The Upcoming ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie
Sony Pictures was previously developing the live-action movie Masters of the Universe, but now the project was moved to Netflix, which means that we won’t be able to see it in theaters. The good news is that the project is finally moving forward, and Deadline now confirmed that Kyle Allen, who starred in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story last year, is set to play the famous He-Man.
“Masters of the Universe is an iconic property that shaped the imaginations of an entire generation of kids with the message of becoming the best version of yourself. With our partners at Netflix, we look forward to showing audiences that anything can happen in Eternia. We are continuing to unlock this global franchise in new ways, and we can’t wait to see Kyle battle it out with Skeletor in this epic live-action saga.” — Robbie Brenner, executive producer at Mattel Films, for Deadline
Masters of the Universe first appeared as the series of action figures in 1982, and only a year later, an animated series premiered. The animated series became a cultural phenomenon, and even today, it still has millions of fans and it causes a lot of nostalgia among the audience that watched it at a younger age.
This won’t be the first live-action movie based on Masters of the Universe. The first movie debuted in 1987, with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The movie was a box-office bomb with only $17.3 million. The reboot was in development for decades now, but it seems that the project is now finally moving forward. Adam and Aaron Nee are set to direct the movie from the screenplay they co-wrote with David Callaham. The release date is still unknown.
