Netflix is full of documentaries about scandalous people and what they did in real life, and Hunter Moore is one such character that the internet is now focusing on. In the docuseries entitled The Most Hated Man on the Internet, Moore has found himself under the scrutiny of the general public, who might not have heard about him before. So, where is Hunter Moore right now, and what happened to him?

After getting imprisoned for two years and six months, Hunter Moore was released in 2017 and is no longer active on social media. In 2018, he published a self-memoir that recounted the history of his actions. However, he hasn’t been active on any social media or even to the general public.

Being called “the most hated man on the internet” means that Hunter Moore is a despicable character in a realm that is full of some of the most despicable people ever. The entire story of how he became as hated as he is can be seen in the Netflix docuseries. Now, with that said, let’s take a look at where Hunter Moore is right now and what happened to him.

What Happened To Hunter Moore?

The release of the new Netflix docuseries entitled The Most Hated Man on the Internet has gotten fans wondering about the character the title alludes to. Now, we know for a fact that Netflix is known for releasing documentaries that feature some of the most controversial people on the planet.

But while he may be called “the most hated man on the internet,” not a lot of people actually know who Hunter Moore is and what happened to him. As such, it is best to keep up with the story so that you will understand why he has become the most hated man on the internet, which is a place full of some of the most despicable people on the planet.

Hunter Moore’s story began in 2010 when he started a website called IsAnyoneUp, which was supposed to be a clubbing website that allowed people to meet and date people who loved clubbing. Sounds harmless, right? Well, that’s not even half the story.

Later on, Moore posted a naked picture of a girl that he was dating using the website that he himself started. After a while, he realized that the website had a lot of hits due to the picture, and that was what prompted him to post more naked pictures.

The catch here is that the pictures that Hunter Moore posted weren’t only from the people that sent him naked photos of themselves. Instead, he posted pictures of people who didn’t even send him any photos whatsoever, as the posted pictures included those who were posted and emailed by people. In a sense, IsAnyoneUp became a “revenge porn” website and a breeding ground for photos of exes that people wanted to take revenge on.

Whenever a picture of a person appeared on the website, it included the person’s full name, profession, social media profiles, and even city. As such, people are likely to find the photos whenever they want to search for anything about the person, and that means that even employers who want to make a background check about someone could easily find the photo.

Essentially, Moore and a cohort were hacking computers and were able to use the photos that they hacked from the files of the owners. It was through that that Moore was able to find enough pictures that allowed him to post indecent pictures of different people without their consent. And all of these photos included any sort of person, as Moore didn’t even choose who he wanted to post on his website.

This went on for around 16 months as Hunter Moore was able to earn around $30,000 on advertising revenue. The problem was that Moore was able to hide behind the curtain of free speech and user-generated content with what he was doing, and that allowed him to escape the grasp of the law for a while.

The problem was that Moore wasn’t even apologetic at all and even dubbed himself as a “professional life ruiner.” When people sent them emails and messages, the only thing he did was to reply “LOL,” as he was able to essentially revel in his role. It became a cult-like website that had different people treating him like a saint. And when women wanted to get featured on his website to become famous, they often offered to hook up with Hunter Moore.

Moore met his match in the form of Charlotte Laws, whose daughter was featured on the website. Kayla, Laws’ daughter, told her mother that she never sent naked photos to anyone but herself through her email. That was what allowed Charlotte to find a way to get her revenge on Hunter Moore.

Despite getting dismissed by the LA police, Laws spent two years building a file on Moore by speaking with different victims. She eventually handed her evidence on Moore to the FBI in 2012, as this was the start of the most hated man on the internet’s downfall.

In an interview with The Guardian, Laws said, “It’s pure misogyny. It’s about hating women. It’s about hurting them. That’s the whole purpose of the site. It wasn’t about the pictures. There were hundreds of people self-submitting photos, but they’re not victims because they are saying: ‘Hey, you can post my nude picture.’ But that wasn’t interesting. The thing is humiliating people. The kind of people who would never post their photo on a site like that, and who have a lot to lose. Who have high-profile jobs, or could have their entire life destroyed. That’s what he found enjoyable. That’s what his followers found enjoyable.”

In 2012, IsAnybodyUp was forced to shut down, and Moore sold the domain to an anti-bullying website. This led to a long legal battle involving Moore, as he eventually pleaded guilty to felony charges for aggravated identity theft and aiding and abetting in the unauthorized access of a computer in 2015. He was eventually sentenced to two years and six months in prison and a $2,000 fine.

It is safe to say that Hunter Moore could no longer escape the grasp of the law, although some would say that the two-and-a-half years that he spent in prison weren’t nearly enough to compensate for the lives he ruined while he was running that website.

Where Is Hunter Moore Right Now?

After serving his sentence, Hunter Moore was released in 2017. It was also in the same year that the general public was able to hear from him as he revealed to make EDM tracks. He released one entitled “Make the Internet Great Again,” as it was clear that he was alluding to what he did back when he was running IsAnybodyUp.

After that, he released a book entitled “Is Anyone Up?” which was released in 2018. He spent a few more years on social media to make people see where he was at in his life as he switched to being a gym rat and a cryptocurrency enthusiast. In one of the photos he posted, he said that he said “Look guys, I did my time behind bars. Living my life peacefully now, it’s been a decade about what happened. Some of you loves me, most of you hates me, if you want me to apologize well I wouldn’t. I don’t owe anyone anything.”

In that regard, it is clear that Hunter Moore isn’t at all apologetic, as he might have needed more time in jail to realize what he did. And for those who became victims of his website, they know for a fact that they didn’t get the justice that they deserved.

Of course, the Netflix docuseries was also some sort of a revenge story that allowed the director to make a compelling storyline that made people who weren’t privy to what Hunter Moore did understand what kind of a person he is. Moore may have destroyed lives all over the world, but the docuseries has only served to destroy his as millions of people now know what he did.

Since around 2018, Hunter Moore has been silent and away from the general public. He isn’t at all active on social media, as there are reasons to believe that he is now keeping his circle small and limiting himself to people who actually rooted for him during the height of IsAnybodyUp.
