If you’re a fan of the archaeological, adventure, treasure-hunting genre, then you’ve probably grown up enjoying the National Treasure movies. Well, Disney+ is now developing an awesome new TV show that’s happening in the same universe called National Treasure: Edge of History. With the movies exploring such awesome locations, the fans wonder, where was the show filmed?

National Treasure: Edge of History began filming in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana in the US, on February 12, 2022. In late June, the filming moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Other locations are undisclosed, though some studio shooting certainly happened.

ABC Signature Studios (a subsidiary of Disney Television Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television Studios are involved, both based in California. So, it’s likely that some shooting was done there, although it wasn’t disclosed as of yet. Keep reading to learn more about the new

National Treasure project, its filming locations, cast and crew, release date, and more.

National Treasure: Edge of History: What will it be about?

National Treasure: Edge of History is a brand new Disney+ Original TV series that serves as a continuation of the highly-popular National Treasure movie series. For those who don’t recall, the series consists of two movies, from 2004 and 2007, respectively, while the third movie is still in development, now for over a decade.

For that third movie, the plan was to get all of the cast from the first two films back to reprise their roles, but Disney was never satisfied with the story, favoring the National Treasure: Edge of History TV series instead. According to reports from August 2022, however, the script for the third movie is finished, ‘very good,’ and has been sent to Nicolas Cage for approval.

As for the new Disney+ series, it will have ten episodes and will happen within the same universe that the movies are set in. However, the cast and characters will be completely different, apart from some exceptions. So, what will it be about?

Well, the main story will follow a young, 20-year-old woman named Jess Valenzuela, who’s an adventurous Dreamer. She will ask her friends for help to uncover all the secrets that her family’s past has been keeping shut. Along the way, Jess and her friends will try to uncover, and recover long-lost, historical Pan-American treasures.

Luckily, not much about the plot has been revealed so far, which is always great from my point of view when we’re talking about an adventurous, treasure-seeking project like this one. I love when we uncover the plot and the treasures along with the characters instead of knowing things before they’re uncovered in the show.

That being said, not knowing that much about the plot leaves one to wonder – where did the filming take place?

National Treasure: Edge of History filming locations

So far, only two filming locations have been officially disclosed for National Treasure: Edge of History.

On February 12, 2022, it was revealed that principal photography and shooting began in Baton Rouge. For those who don’t know, Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana, one of the states in the US. It’s a lovely, picturesque city lying on the eastern banks of the Mississippi River, and there’s certainly a lot of history there for the characters to uncover.

Later, in June 2022, reports suggested that the filming moved from Baton Rogue to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Much like Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana, Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico.

It’s a historical town whose full name has remained the same since it was founded: La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asis, which translates to the Royal Town of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi. The short version, Santa Fe, means Holy Faith.

Considering the Templar Treasure connections in the original movies, it wouldn’t be crazy to assume the show will connect to the same narrative.

Now, I’m almost certain that these aren’t the only locations where National Treasure: Edge of History was filmed. We don’t know in which studio exactly was the show film, but as with any other project, there are bound to be scenes that require a constructed setting.

The two main production companies and studios involved in the making of the show are Jerry Bruckheimer Television Studios and ABC Signature Studios, the latter being a subsidiary of Disney Television Studios.

The companies are both located (or at least their headquarters) in California (Santa Monica and Burbank, respectively), so it’s not crazy to assume that some scenes were shot In the Golden State as well.

National Treasure: Edge of History Cast & Crew

This was, obviously, the part that most National Treasure fans are intrigued about the most – is Nicolas Cage going to be in National Treasure: Edge of History?

Unfortunately, Cage won’t be in the first season of the show – not because the producers or the actor didn’t want it to happen, but because the scheduling of the filming just didn’t work for the Hollywood actor who was too busy at the time.

It was later reported that he’d appear as his character in the second season of the show, though it’s unclear if it’s just speculation or if it’s really the case.

The good news for National Treasure fans is that at least two characters from the original movies are returning to the show. Harvey Keitel will return as Peter Sadusky, the pesky FBI agent, whereas Justin Bartha will reprise his role as Riley Pool, the computer genius.

The lead role of Jess Valenzuela belongs to the young and talented Lisette Alexis. Lyndon Smith will portray the FBI agent Ross, while Zuri Reed will play Tasha Rivers.  We’ll also see Jake Austin Walker as Liam Sadusky, Antonio Cipriano as Oren Bradley,  and Jordan Rodrigues as Ethan. In February 2022, Catherine Zeta-Jones joined the cast as Billie Pearce.
