What Is the Move Deleter in Pokémon Platinum?

Move Deleter is quite important in Pokémon games. The Move Deleter is actually a person who is able to delete all moves HMs. They do it free of charge and will make a Pokémon forget a move it knows. They are counterparts to the Move Reminder, who are responsible for teaching Pokémon every move available with leveling up.

The only restriction a Move Deleter has is that it can’t make a Pokémon forget the last move it knows. HM or Hidden Machine is an item that is used for teaching certain Pokémon their moves, which are available by leveling up. Hidden Machines can be used an unlimited number of times and cannot be disposed of. Usually, when using it to teach your Pokémon a move, they cannot be normally forgotten. That’s where Move Deleter comes in.

Besides exploiting Day Care and its usage of training your Pokémon, Move Deleter is the only way for a Pokémon to forget HM moves such as Cut and Fly. This is useful if you want to transfer your Pokémon from Generation III or IV to the following generations via Pal Park or Poké Transfer since Pokémon cannot know any HM moves when they need to be transferred.

All in all, Move Deleter is a really useful game mechanic to have and in the end, pretty important.

Move with your character south of the Centre and the first building on the left side is the one you need to enter. When you go inside, you will stumble upon an old man standing in the middle of the room. Just move with your character and talk to him. There will be a bit of dialogue and when the Move Deleter asks: “You’ve come to make me force your Pokémon to forget some moves?”, you will get two options:

  • No: “Remember me if there are moves that need to be forgotten.”
  • Yes: “Which Pokémon should forget a move?”

If you press yes, you will get a menu, where you can choose a Pokémon of your liking to forget a move. If you choose a Pokémon that has only one learned move, you will get this response: “That Pokémon knows only one move, so it can’t be forgotten…”. The game will return you to the Pokémon selection screen, where you can select other Pokémons.

If you select a Pokémon that knows more than one move, the response will be: “OK, then. Which move should be forgotten?“. When you confirm your selection of the move you wish to be forgotten, your Pokémon will forget that move.

All in all, the process is quite easy, and you’ll be able to use it whenever you want. Of course, you need to take into account the restrictions the Move Deleter has, and when you realize that, everything will be simple to go through.
