Who Is Flora in Fate: The Winx Saga? Meet Paulina Chavez’s Character
Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga only got more exciting for those who enjoyed season 1 or are fans of Winx Club. While the series does take a Riverdale kind of theme when it comes to making Winx Club darker and grittier, it still found itself a niche market that was able to enjoy season 2 and the new characters that joined it. So, in that regard, one of the new characters that you may have noticed was Flora. But who is Flora in Fate: The Winx Saga?
Flora is an earth fairy and is the cousin of Terra, who we already know is an existing member of Winx Suite. Considering that she is also an earth fairy, Flora’s powers are related to plants and botany. Her powers are similar to Terra’s but are different in a sense she excels more in botanical chemistry.
The introduction of Flora in season 2 of Fate raised a lot of questions, considering that fans thought that she was replaced by Terra, an original character, in the first season. But the good thing was that the writers were able to take advantage of two earth fairies in the series by exploring the relationship between Flora and Terra. Now, let’s get to know more about Flora.
Who Is Flora In Fate: The Winx Saga?
The first season of the Netflix original series Fate: The Winx Saga was a hit among different fans of Winx Club, which is an animated series that served as the source material for the live-action version. Of course, season 1 was still quite surprising when it came to the different changes that were introduced, and one of the more surprising ones was that Flora, a known character in the animated version, was not around in the first season.
Of course, the one thing we saw in season 1 was the fact that Flora was essentially replaced by the character named Terra, who essentially had the same kind of powers that the animated version of Flora had. In that regard, fans believed that the series had indeed replaced Flora and that she would not appear in Fate: The Winx Saga at any time in the future.
But season 2 surprised us when it was announced that Flora was going to appear. Of course, we got to see Flora in season 2, as her addition might have been the product of fans getting angry for not being able to see a fan-favorite character from the animated version of the series. So, who is Flora in Fate: The Winx Saga?
Like Terra, Flora is an earth fairy, and that means that her powers are related to plants and botany. She is a young woman of color and is the cousin of Terra, who was introduced in season 1 as one of the characters that eventually became a member of the Winx Suite. But the problem was that, considering that they have different ethnicities, it was clarified that Flora and Terra are only related due to marriage in the family as opposed to being related biologically.
In the animated version of Winx Club, Flora is a sweet and friendly character that can be shy at times. There are moments when she seems quite passive and lacks the confidence to face problems that are in front of her. Of course, her shyness manifests in her use of magic as she isn’t the most self-confident fairy. Despite that, she is the one who is most nurturing among her friends as she cares deeply for nature and is able to help her friends and make them more confident about themselves.
The thing is that a lot of those qualities are found in Terra in Fate: The Winx Saga. In contrast to her counterpart in the animated series, Flora is more of an outgoing and self-confident fairy that shows little to no self-doubt whenever she is using her magic. In that regard, there are a lot of reasons to believe that Flora was never supposed to be in the series, considering that a lot of her qualities were found in Terra, who is an original character in Fate: The Winx Saga.
What Are Flora’s Powers And Abilities?
Again, Flora is like Terra in the sense that she has powers that are related to plant life and botany due to her status as an earth fairy. Her powers are described to be chlorokinesis, which is the ability to control plants. And that means that she has powers that are actually related to and similar to Terra’s own powers, even though they aren’t really related by blood.
In that regard, people were wondering how different Flora and Terra are in terms of their powers and abilities. After all, considering that there is already an earth fairy in the Winx Suite, it was actually quite redundant to have another fairy with similar powers.
But season 2 was able to quickly capitalize on the similarities between Flora and Terra in terms of their powers and abilities. Flora is unlike Terra as she is capable of using her powers confidently. And it was shown in the ending of Fate: The Winx Saga that Flora’s knowledge of chemistry was one of her advantages when it comes to her chlorokinesis.
What Happened To Flora In Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2?
People were wondering how the series would be able to add Flora into the mix, considering that Terra was already in Fate: The Winx Saga. After all, there is only so much room for two earth fairies that have the same abilities. But the good thing is that the series was able to focus more on the relationship between the two instead on their own powers, although they do have a few differences in the way they use their own chlorokinesis.
Season 2 focused more on the personality differences between Flora and Terra, as it was clear that Terra lacked the boldness and self-confidence that her cousin possessed. As such, Terra was forced to confront her own insecurities, and this allowed season 2 to tell a really good story that made fans forget that there were two fairies with the same powers.
In season 2, however, Flora was able to showcase her prowess in chemistry when she was able to improve her resistance to the scrapers that drain powers. What she did was that she used poison to make sure that any scraper that attempted to drain her powers got killed. That is where her advanced knowledge and boldness came in handy, as this wasn’t something that Terra could have done.
But because of her bold personality, Flora basically used herself as bait for the scrapers as she realized the risks involved by using poison to bait them into taking her powers. She also knew the fact that being drained by a scraper was painful and had nearly killed other fairies. Nevertheless, she was brave and bold enough to act as bait as she did indeed survive the encounter with the scrapers but with permanent scars.
Still, the series didn’t say whether or not she lost her magic after getting drained by the scrapers, as we did see some of the characters getting their powers back at the end of the season when the scrapers transferred their magic to Sebastian, whose death allowed their magic to flow back to their original owners. Nevertheless, the problem was that the scrapers that fed on Flora died before they could give their magic to Sebastian, and that leaves us wondering whether or not she got her powers back upon their death.
So, at this point, we are not certain whether or not Flora had permanently lost her magic or whether or not Sebastian’s death allowed all the power he had stolen to return to the victims of the scrapers. But we can still make the assumption that magic, once lost by someone who stole it, naturally flows back to the original owner, and that means that there is still a chance that Flora will regain her powers in the next season.
But if Flora did indeed lose her powers in the encounter with the scrapers, season 3 might explore her own personal journey to get her powers back. Or there might be something related to her and Terra working together to help improve her cousin’s prowess with earth magic. Whatever the case may be, season 3 will tell us the answers to our questions.
