The characters of GOBLIN SLAYER! are quite intriguing. In this article, we will discuss one particular character, as you will find out who the Goblin Slayer’s master and mentor is. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Burglar.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Goblin Slayer, the protagonist of the series, was trained by a rhea named Burglar, who was thus his mentor and his master. Rhea was a brutal mentor, and he tortured Goblin Slayer during their training to make him more resilient.
  • He is a skilled fighter but relies more on his intelligence than anything else. He can fight but prefers to avoid it.
  • Sometimes, he seems to be borderline sane but has demonstrated extreme lucidity on more than one occasion, showing that he is definitely a complex personality and that there is no one single answer about his role in the story and his very nature.

Like every good hero, Goblin Slayer has a master, and in his case, it is Burglar

We all know who Goblin Slayer is. The protagonist of the series is an expert silver-rank adventurer who is only interested in exterminating goblins, to the point that the Guild has given him a Specialist rating due to both the enormous amount of goblins he has killed and his work in the study of their habits and biology. The jobs he undertakes involve only goblins, although he is often forced to face other creatures as well, where the goblins have allied themselves with them.

His most characteristic trait is his obsession with hunting goblins, born after witnessing the massacre of his village, of which he was the only survivor by hiding under a floorboard but thus having to watch while the goblins tortured and killed his older sister. Now, while Cow Girl took care of Goblin Slayer when he was orphaned, she was not his master and mentor. Namely, as every hero should, Goblin Slayer also had a master and mentor, and that was Burglar.

Burglar is a middle-sized rhea; rheas are mostly humanoid beings with Elf-like ears that live in the shadows. While some have a more human face, others look more like rats or other beasts, and Burglar is one of them, which is why he, as a character, is a very unlikely mentor. But he was one.

When Goblin Slayer was a boy, Burglar took him in and taught him how to fight. He taught him everything he knew, and after leaving Burglar, Goblin Slayer only had to hone his skills further. Burglar, who did not appear much in the series, appeared once when he visited Cow Girl, deducing that it was the place where Goblin Slayer lived. He commented on her chest and asked whether the two of them had settled down already, but after he got scolded, he became disappointed and soon bid his farewells to Cow Girl and then disappeared.

During that encounter, he called Goblin Slayer talentless but also a wonder, adding that the only thing he knew how to do properly was take things too seriously. So, what else do we know about Burglar?

Well, his intelligence was definitely his forte. He was exceptionally smart, very resourceful, and skilled, and he also had impressive deductive skills, which made him well-suited for a mentor. And while his methods might not have been the best out there, they were still interesting enough and made Goblin Slayer into a formidable fighter and a powerful character.

But, aside from his intelligence, Burglar was also a very skilled fighter, although he himself avoided direct physical confrontations. He carried a sword with him and some magic rings, which would help him when needed, but if he could, he definitely opted to avoid a direct physical confrontation with the enemy. He would rather use his cunning to get out of a fight.

His history is mostly unknown, although he seemingly was a great and famous adventurer back in his days. Still, he is now very old and borderline sane, which is why he often tortured and brutally mistreated Goblin Slayer, although he made him a proficient killing machine.
