Classroom of the Elite is a very popular light novel series about the intrigues that are happening in the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School, set in the distant future. The story follows a group of students as they try to “survive” the harsh conditions of the school and the society they live in. This psychological thriller has also received an anime adaptation and thanks to its popularity, we at Fiction Horizon are also writing about the series. In this article, we are going to introduce you to the character of Riku Utomiya, who debuted during the second year.

Riku Utomiya is one of the first-year students of Advanced Nurturing High School and a student of Class 1-C. He has straight dark blue hair and green eyes. He made his debut in the Classroom of the Elite 2nd Year Volume 1, which came out on January 24, 2020 in Japan. He has yet to appear in the anime series.

In the remainder of this article, we are going to tell you about Riku Utomiya and his story from the series. Some spoilers are going to be present, so if you’re not fully up-to-date with the latest developments in Classroom of the Elite, be careful how you approach our text. For those that are, we are going to answer all the questions you might have about this topic.

Who is Riku Utomiya?

Utomiya was first introduced in Year 2 Volume 1 walking to Kiyotaka Ayanokōji with Sakurako Tsubaki to ask if he could be Tsubaki’s partner, since she had a C- in her OAA and was at risk of not finding a partner. Kiyotaka ended up rejecting her offer saying that she already had a potential mate in mind. Tsubaki and Utomiya agreed and left after Utomiya gave her phone number to Kiyotaka in case anything happened.

Later, he represented Class 1-C at a meeting between students from the four first-year classes. The reason for the meeting was to negotiate possible formations for the next Desert Island Exam. He started arguing with Hōsen in the middle of the meeting and accused him of causing the expulsion of one of his classmates.

Riku Utomiya is a fairly new character to the series, which is why information on him is quite scarce at this moment. The plot still hasn’t advanced that much for us to know a lot about Riku and his potential role in the story. He has made some appearances, but it was all relatively small when compared to the other major characters. In that aspect, we shall have to see how his story evolves in the future volumes of the light novel, as well as the anime series.

What is Riku Utomiya like?

Utomiya seems to have a calm personality, he usually talks casually with other people and his class seems to trust him to talk to people from other classes. He dislikes people like Kazuomi Hōsen, who uses violence to get what he wants and has no problem getting into a fight with him if he gets out of line.

Utomiya seems to be a genuinely good guy, from what we’ve seen. The fact is that he dislikes characters like Kazuomi , who are very violent and think that they can get away with things in life by just imposing themselves onto others. We’ll have to see whether Utomiya’s personality remains the same in the harsh conditions of the Classroom of the Elite series, but we hope that he remains as he is now, as this very moment, because he seems to be quite a refreshment in comparison to some other characters from the series.

What are Riku Utomiya’s skills?

Utomiya has high physical abilities, as her OAA is rated an A in Physical Ability. When he grabbed Hōsen’s wrist to stop him from attacking the others, Hōsen immediately knew that Utomiya was strong enough. This is, sadly, all we know about him and his skills at this moment. His academic skills are on a B level (72), but he is a social outcast. His adaptability has been graded as C (66), while his overall social contribution is a low D+ (39). His overall grade is a low B (66) and has remained the same during his second year.
