The actor best known as The Deep on ‘The Boys’ has become an unlikely recurring topic in conversations about the film, even though nothing official ties him to the project.
The confusion says less about Crawford’s current career and more about how casting rumors calcify online over time. Understanding why his name keeps popping up requires looking back more than a decade, long before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was ever conceived.
Chace Crawford’s Marvel History Goes Back to 2010
The connection between Crawford and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has nothing to do with the current film. It traces back to the original casting search for Captain America in 2010, when Chris Evans ultimately won the role after competing against a long list of contenders. That casting search has become the stuff of Hollywood trivia in the years since, resurfacing whenever a new Captain America related project is announced. Chace Crawford’s name does not appear anywhere on that list. The March 2025 livestream confirmed returning actors like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Simu Liu, along with X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer. Recent footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con added new detail to that threat. Footage from the panel showed Doom in his throne room, with Sue Storm’s voiceover describing him as having been kind and caring before everything he loved was taken from him.
Behind the camera, the production has largely reassembled the team from the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ era. Jeffrey Ford is editing the film and Alan Silvestri is composing the score, both returning from earlier MCU installments, while Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely handle the screenplay. A sequel is already locked into the calendar as well. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is scheduled to follow on December 17, 2027, closing out Phase Six of the MCU.
