‘Wicked: For Good’ Drops Irresistible New Teaser
Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2024 musical film Wicked, is set to hit theaters on November 21. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.
It brings to life the second part of the famous 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which itself was based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, a reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the classic 1939 movie.
The story follows Elphaba and Glinda as they step fully into their new roles. Elphaba, now known as the Wicked Witch of the West, continues her fight for animal rights while living on the run.
Glinda, now Glinda the Good, has become a public figure under the watch of the Wizard and Madame Morrible. Their friendship is tested when Dorothy Gale arrives from Kansas, setting off events that will change the Land of Oz forever.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return to play Elphaba and Glinda, and Jonathan Bailey is back as Fiyero. Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, and Sharon D. Clarke also reprise their roles. Kerry Ellis, who played Elphaba on stage in both Broadway and West End productions, will appear in a secret cameo.
The film has had a long road to production. Universal Pictures and Marc Platt, who produced the stage musical, announced plans for the movie in 2012. Production faced delays, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but filming eventually began in December 2022 in England. It was briefly interrupted by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike and finished in January 2024.
To make sure no important parts of the story were left out and to develop the characters more, the adaptation was split into two films.
Fans are already getting excited because a new teaser for Wicked: For Good has just been released. The teaser gives a new glimpse of the music, the magic, and the dramatic twists that are coming in the sequel.
