10 Best Wong Quotes from Doctor Strange Movies
Wong is one of the most beloved characters in the MCU, working as the sidekick of Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. Their relationship started rocky, as Wong doesn’t really share Stephen’s sense of humor, but they found companionship throughout the films that blossomed into an epic friendship.
As quiet and serious as Wong can be, he delivered some epic quotes and dialogues throughout the five films he already appeared in. Some were serious, some were wise, but most of Wong’s quotes are just hilarious. Here are the ten best Wong quotes from Doctor Strange movies and other films within the MCU that he appeared in.
Best Wong Quotes From Doctor Strange
“While heroes like the Avengers protect the world from physical dangers, we sorcerers safeguard it against more mystical threats.”
It may not seem like it at first, but Wong is actually quite a brilliant sorcerer. He read more about magic than almost anybody else and was the librarian who took care of all the mystical books. He guided Strange through the process of becoming the Sorcerer Supreme and helped him learn what the job requires them to do.
I love how he can simplify certain plot points with a single line, like this particular quote about what the sorcerers do and what kind of threats they take care of. Wong knows his role, plays by the rules, and has a very methodical approach to what he does – which is why he makes such a good partner to Strange, who’s more reckless and inclined to take risks.
“Well, don’t stop now.”
After giving Strange a hard time about using the Time Stone, manipulating time, and breaking the laws of nature, Wong dies in battle against Kaecilius and his Zealots. That’s when Strange decides to do what Wong told him not to do once again and manipulate time to resurrect him.
As Wong comes back to life, Strange says: “I’m breaking the laws of nature, I know.” to which Wong answers with the quote above. I mean, yeah, he’s all for keeping nature’s will intact, but since Strange already broke it, he might as well finish it, right? It’s really a great testament to their friendship that, as we see later in the MCU, had only just begun.
“That’s the Book of Cagliostro. A study of time. One of the rituals was stolen by a former master, the Zealot, Kaecilius. Just after he strung up the former librarian and relieved him of his head. I am now the guardian of these books. So if a volume from this collection should be stolen again, I’d know it, and you’d be dead before you ever left the compound.”
This quote came when Stephen Strange browsed through ancient sorcery books and realized pages were missing. Wong then explains that it was Kaecilius himself that stole the pages when another guy was the librarian.
Now that Wong is the librarian, he wants to let Strange know that, despite them being on the same side, he won’t sit quietly if something like that happens again. That’s the perfect depiction of Wong’s character – he’s friendly and helpful, but if you push him, he’ll always aim to do his job and do the right thing, even if it means fighting his allies.
Best Wong Quotes From Avengers: Infinity War
“Attachment to the material is detachment from the spiritual.”
Wong got under my skin with this one. It was a hilarious moment between him and Doctor Strange that really depicted their friendship perfectly. Stephen wants to go out and get food, and Wong wants some, too – but he has no money because, well, the quote above.
Strange answers, “I’ll tell the guys at the deli. Maybe they’ll make you a metaphysical ham and rye”, to which Wong answers he does have some money – two hundred. Not dollars, but rupees, which is around $1.50. Strange just gives up and decides to buy Wong a tuna melt himself.
“At the dawn of the universe, there was nothing, then boom. The Big Bang sent six elemental crystals hurtling across the virgin universe. These Infinity Stones each control an essential aspect of existence.”
As Thanos came closer and the Infinity War knocked at their door, Tony Stark had no idea what they were dealing with. Luckily, they had Wong and Strange to lay it out simply and perfectly. During this sequence, Wong explains all you need to know about the Infinity Stones and how they work in a matter of a few sentences.
“A Hunka-Hulka Burning fudge is our favorite.”
After they explain how the Stones work and that Strange has the Time Stone around his neck, Tony asks why don’t they just destroy the Time Stone before Thanos gets it. That’s when Wong answers: “We swore an oath to protect the Time Stone… with our lives.”
Tony, in his style, reveals that he swore off dairy, but then an ice cream parlor named a flavor after him – the Stark Raving Nuts. Wong doesn’t care about it, though, because his favorite flavor is named after the Hulk, not Iron Man. It was one of the funniest moments in the entire film, especially because Bruce Banner was standing right there with a proud smirk on his face.
Best Wong Quotes From Avengers: Endgame
“What? You wanted more?!”
It’s not easy to have Doctor Strange satisfied, and Wong knows it the best. He did everything he could to gather as many people and heroes as possible for the last battle against Thanos. Still, despite seeing the huge army Wong had gathered, he still asks: “Is that everyone?”
That’s when Wong delivered this awesome quote that had the whole theater burst out in laughter and joy when I watched Endgame. God, it was an epic movie!
Best Wong Quotes From Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings
“That hurt, Emil! Want me to show you how it feels?”
This awesome quote comes behind a sequence that revealed several important things to MCU fans. One, Wong has a wild side that loves to go out and brawl in underground one-on-one matches against other people with supernatural abilities.
Two, this was the first time we’ve ever seen Emil Blonsky, aka Abomination, in the MCU. He’ll be one of the main characters in the She-Hulk TV series, along with Jen Walters herself, Titania, and the Hulk.
Best Wong Quotes From Spider-Man: No Way Home
“The Sorcerer Supreme has high duties.”
Tada! In case you missed it, wong is the Sorcerer Supreme now because doctor Strange blipped for five years. During those years, poor Wong took his duties and continued to do everything a Sorcerer Supreme must do.
On the other hand, Strange now has Wong’s duties to do, but seeing that a Siberian blizzard stormed through the Sanctum because SOMEONE forgot to put a maintenance spell on the rotunda gateways, I’d say both Wong and Strange were better off when their roles were reversed.
“He will. He’s really good at forgetting things.”
Wong is a kind, genuine guy, but every now and then, he’ll give you a zing like this that makes him so much more beloved among fans. Moments earlier, Wong complained about Strange forgetting to do his chores, and now, Peter Parker asked him for a favor.
When they realized what Peter asked for couldn’t be done, Parker told Strange just to forget about it. That’s when Wong delivered the quote – and unknowingly gave Stephen the idea about using a memory-erasing spell. Wong wanted nothing to do with it, so he went straight to vacation mode after that.
