‘Wuthering Heights’ Star Margot Robbie’s Viral ‘New Mom’ Photos Aren’t What Fans Think

Few stars can send social media into a frenzy with a simple lunch outing quite like Margot Robbie. The Australian actress and producer is famously private and doesn’t even keep an Instagram account, so any glimpse into her off-duty style tends to spread quickly. That’s exactly what happened this week, when a pair of paparazzi photos began circulating on X.

The images show Robbie walking down a Los Angeles sidewalk in denim shorts, an oversized white shirt, and towering red platform heels, carrying a baby car seat as a friend in a pink floral maxi dress walks beside her. The post, shared on October 6, framed the photos as Robbie stepping out in her “new mom mode”. There’s just one problem: the photos aren’t new at all.

The outfit matches photos Just Jared published on September 10, 2023, during the height of the ‘Barbie’ phenomenon. According to the outlet, Robbie was enjoying lunch with her girlfriends at The Ivy in Beverly Hills on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Just Jared described her look as Daisy Dukes, a white top and patent red platforms from Chanel, finished with a Chanel bag. The red shoes and white shirt in the viral images match that day exactly.

The timing matters, because Robbie wasn’t a mother at the time, and she wasn’t pregnant yet either. Whose baby was in the car seat that afternoon has never been confirmed, so the “new mom” caption tells a story the photos can’t back up.

The throwback captures Robbie at a defining moment in her career. ‘Barbie’, which she starred in and produced through LuckyChap Entertainment, grossed $1.4 billion worldwide and went on to earn 8 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

Her press tour that year became a fashion event of its own, known for micro minis and sky-high heels. The red Chanel platforms fit right in, since Robbie has been a Chanel ambassador since 2018 and later became the face of Chanel No. 5.

Not everyone bought the “mom mode” framing. One reply under the viral post questioned whether any mother would carry a baby in a car seat while wearing heels that high. The comment drew plenty of agreement. Unknowingly, it also pointed to the real story: these weren’t recent photos of a new mother balancing a newborn.

Robbie’s actual journey into parenthood came later. News that she and husband Tom Ackerley were expecting their first child broke in July 2024, after she was photographed showing a baby bump on vacation at Lake Como in Italy.

She later debuted her bump on the red carpet at the Los Angeles screening of ‘My Old Ass’ in September 2024. Reports said the couple welcomed a baby boy on October 17, 2024, in Los Angeles.

True to form, the couple has kept their son’s name private. A source told People that the pair had waited a long time to become parents and that Robbie was enjoying motherhood.

Robbie and Ackerley met in 2013 on the set of ‘Suite Française’, where he worked as an assistant director, and married in 2016. Since becoming parents, they have kept their family life largely away from the cameras.

Robbie made her post-baby return to the red carpet promoting ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ alongside Colin Farrell. Even so, it’s an old photo from her ‘Barbie’ summer that has fans talking again, a reminder of how quickly a recycled image can turn into a brand-new headline.
