X-Men Legends Unite: Nightcrawler, Colossus & Thunderbird Will Get Solo Projects for 50th Anniversary in 2025!
In 2025, three iconic X-Men characters—Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Thunderbird—will each get their own solo comic book series to celebrate their 50th anniversaries. These characters were first introduced in 1975 in ‘Giant-Size X-Men’ #1 by creators Len Wein and Dave Cockrum.
This announcement was confirmed by Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s Senior Vice President and Executive Editor, on his Substack, where he shared exciting news about these upcoming projects.
Man, this thing where we need to keep absolute parity among all characters has to stop being a thing, Kevin. Yes, we’ll be celebrating Nightcrawler and Colossus this year, as well as Thunderbird. And we’ll do so in their own titles just as soon as they start having titles.
Brevoort explained that these characters would get their own series, marking 50 years since their debut. He responded to a fan question about celebrating Nightcrawler’s and Colossus’s anniversaries, saying that it was time to stop worrying about having the same amount of focus on all characters.
He confirmed that not only will Nightcrawler and Colossus be celebrated, but Thunderbird will also get his own series.
In addition to the solo projects, there’s also talk about connections to ‘Ms. Marvel: Second Genesis.’ This story was inspired by the original ‘Giant-Size X-Men’ #1, and in a timeline shown in the comic, Ms. Marvel is imagined as a member of the X-Men team from that issue. This link brings even more attention to the importance of these characters’ anniversaries.
