‘X-Men’ Star Maya Boyd’s Calvin Klein Moment Has Marvel Fans Buzzing
Marvel Studios has spent the past year building genuine anticipation for its upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot, and much of that excitement has centered on the fresh, largely unproven faces the studio tapped to bring these iconic mutants back to the big screen. Among them is Maya Boyd, a rising talent whose casting alone turned heads well before anyone had seen a single frame of footage.
Boyd’s journey to Marvel started far from Hollywood soundstages, rooted instead in the demanding world of Broadway. The 23-year-old actress built her career through musical theater, making her Broadway debut in ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ in 2023 before stepping into ‘And Juliet’ and later appearing alongside Taraji P. Henson in an adaptation of ‘Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.’
That theater background made her subsequent leap into blockbuster filmmaking all the more notable. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced Boyd as the new Storm, also known as Ororo Munroe, during the studio’s D23 presentation in August, unveiling her alongside Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Adam Driver as the villainous Mr. Sinister.
Now, ahead of the film’s expected 2028 release, Boyd is stepping further into the spotlight, recently turning heads in a crisp cream double-breasted suit while attending Calvin Klein’s Spring 2027 runway show during New York Fashion Week. The appearance quickly caught fire online, not just for the styling itself but for who Boyd happened to be sitting beside.
Boyd and Sink were spotted seated together in the front row, giving fans an early, off-screen glimpse of the on-camera dynamic between Storm and Jean Grey before the film has even started shooting. Photos of the two actresses together spread quickly among Marvel fans, who’ve spent months speculating about how this new mutant ensemble might come together both narratively and personally.
The pairing wasn’t the only notable presence at the show, which brought out a genuinely eclectic mix of names spanning music, fashion, and film. Attendees reportedly included Rosalía, Teyana Taylor, Tate McRae, Solange, Emily Ratajkowski, Pamela Anderson, Gemma Chan, and Katie Holmes, all there to support creative director Veronica Leoni’s latest collection for the brand.
For Boyd specifically, the moment represents a notable step in her transition from stage performer to a face increasingly recognized within Hollywood’s biggest franchise machine. Landing casually in the middle of a starry fashion week lineup, and doing so right next to a co-star fans are already eager to see her opposite on screen, only adds to the sense that her post-casting profile is rising quickly.
That rise carries extra significance given what her casting represents for the character itself. Boyd becomes the first darker-skinned actress to portray Storm on screen, following Halle Berry’s original run across four films from 2000 to 2014 and Alexandra Shipp’s later take in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix,’ a shift many fans have pointed to as bringing the character closer to her original comic book depiction.
With Marvel’s new ‘X-Men’ film currently slated to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028, moments like this front-row sighting are likely to keep generating buzz well before production wraps or trailers even drop. For a cast built largely around fresh faces and unexpected casting choices, every public appearance seems destined to become its own mini-event in the meantime.
