You Won’t Believe How Stylish Cillian Murphy Looked at ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Premiere

Cillian Murphy made a highly anticipated return to the world of 28 Years Later at the London premiere of the sequel, The Bone Temple. The event took place at BFI IMAX Waterloo, and despite heavy rain soaking the city, Murphy and his co-stars made a striking appearance on the black carpet. Murphy, who also serves as an executive producer on the film, was joined by Emma Laird and Erin Kellyman for the premiere.

For his solo carpet moments, Murphy wore a sharp grey suit paired with a black polo neck, looking effortlessly stylish. Laird, reprising her role as Jimmima, wore a pale blue gown with a dramatic ruffled skirt, while Kellyman, who plays Jimmy Ink, opted for a metallic gold dress that captured the excitement of the evening. Murphy’s return confirms earlier reports that he would appear in this second installment of Danny Boyle’s revived series.

His cameo is designed to set up a larger role in a planned third film. Speaking to The Observer, Murphy teased, Everyone’s got to go and see the second one, adding that he thinks the film is really, really good. The Bone Temple continues the story from June’s 28 Years Later, following young Spike, played by Alfie Williams, as he is inducted into a gang of acrobatic killers led by the sinister Sir Jimmy Crystal, portrayed by Jack O’Connell.

The gang, known as The Jimmys, operates in a Britain still devastated by the Rage Virus. Ralph Fiennes returns as Dr. Ian Kelson, adding continuity to the post-apocalyptic world. The premiere drew a star-studded crowd despite the rain. Andy Serkis attended with his son Louis Ashbourne Serkis, who has one of his first acting roles in the film. Director Danny Boyle and new director Nia DaCosta were also present, along with stars including Mirren Mack and Jonathan Ross with his wife Jane Goldman.

The film’s release follows some controversy surrounding its predecessor, particularly the character Sir Jimmy Crystal. Many viewers noticed that his tracksuits, blonde wigs, and the fact that all his followers are named Jimmy seemed inspired by disgraced television presenter Jimmy Savile. Director Danny Boyle told Business Insider that the character was a twist on partial remembrance of figures from pop culture and the honours system.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is a post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland. It was shot back-to-back with 28 Years Later (2025) and is the fourth installment in the 28 Days Later series. Alongside Murphy, Laird, and Kellyman, the film stars Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, and Chi Lewis-Parry. The film was released in the United Kingdom by Sony Pictures Releasing on January 13, as part of a double bill with its predecessor.

Aside from his return to the horror genre, Murphy has a massive year ahead in 2026. He is set to reprise his most iconic television role in The Immortal Man: A Peaky Blinders Film, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 6, before heading to Netflix. The movie, set during World War II, features an ensemble including Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson, and Tim Roth. Additionally, it was recently announced that Murphy will join Michelle Williams and Daniel Craig in an upcoming untitled prison-set drama directed by Damien Chazelle.
