Your Favorite MCU Series Is Getting a New Season on Disney+
Jeremy Renner says a second season of Hawkeye may still happen, despite previous reports that he had passed on the project.
The actor, who plays Clint Barton in the MCU, spoke on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast while promoting the fourth season of his Paramount+ show Mayor of Kingstown.
Renner explained that discussions around Hawkeye Season 2 are still ongoing. He said he now feels ready to return after fully recovering from his near-fatal snowplow accident and with Mayor of Kingstown entering its fourth season.
“We got to where we’re trying to do the second season,” he said. “And I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.”
The actor also reflected on why the first season of Hawkeye was meaningful. “I really enjoyed doing the series version. Because it was a bit more intimate and had the family dynamic, which is always a huge part of him. I think Clint’s superpower is the human side — he’s a superpowerless superhero.”
“He’s one of the few, but I think his superpower is that sort of grit of the human condition and his loyalty and family. It’s like, otherwise, what are you fighting for? We’re fighting for that love and that loyalty of family. And so exploring that was always great. And then there’s the Christmas theme — being in New York, that was great too,” Renner said.
Previously, Renner revealed that he had been offered a role in the second season, but the offer was roughly half of what he earned for Season 1. Considering the long shooting schedule, which could take about eight months, and his recovery from injury, he said he could not accept the deal.
Renner did not place blame on Marvel or Disney directly, but indicated the financial offer was the reason he had to decline.
It’s encouraging to hear that Hawkeye Season 2 might still happen. Renner’s commitment to Clint Barton’s story and the family-focused approach of the show make it one of the more grounded MCU series. If negotiations can be resolved, fans could get a second season that stays true to what made the first season special.
