‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Star Praises New Animated Series: “my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke”

Hudson Thames is an actor known for voicing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marvel’s animated projects. He first played the role in ‘What If…?’ Season 1, specifically in the episode where Spider-Man faces a zombie apocalypse.
Thames is now returning as the voice of Peter Parker in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,’ an upcoming animated series set to premiere on January 29. This marks his second time portraying the iconic character, offering a fresh take on Spider-Man in a world featuring characters new to the MCU, such as Norman Osborn and Lonnie Lincoln.
Thames recently commented on the upcoming show and the actor did have some worries, but luckily they did not come to fruition.
Thames praised ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,’ saying he found it well-written and realistic. He admitted his initial fear was that it might feel “annoying and woke,” but he was relieved that it didn’t. Thames, who has younger brothers, felt the show accurately portrayed high school life. Overall, he was impressed with how authentic and engaging the series felt.
“I thought it was awesome. I mean, my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke, and it wasn’t, and I was like, ‘Yes, this is great, it’s so well written,’ like it feels real. I’m the oldest of five boys, so I feel like I kind of know what’s happening in their lives and in high school, and it felt like it was doing that justice.”
The show stars Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn, Peter’s mentor with questionable methods, while Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, and Zeno Robinson voice Peter’s classmates, including Lonnie Lincoln, Nico Minoru, and Harry Osborn.
The cast also features Hugh Dancy as Otto Octavius, Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Kari Wahlgren as Aunt May, and Paul F. Tompkins as Bentley Wittman, with additional roles for Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Robin Atkin Downes as Doctor Strange, and many classic Marvel characters.
