A new Spider-Man animated TV series titled ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ was announced for Disney+ on November 12, 2021, with Jeff Trammell as the writer and executive producer. At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was revealed that the show would debut in 2024, alongside news of a sequel series, ‘Spider-Man: Sophomore Year.’ Japanese animation studio Polygon Pictures was announced to produce the series on July 14, 2023, using cutting-edge CG technology. The premiere date was confirmed for November 2, 2024. Additionally, the series underwent a title change from ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ to ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ on December 11, 2023.

With the release date nearing, rumors are swirling about possible characters appearing in the show. CanWeGetSomeToast, a prominent leaker, suggests that The Watcher will be part of the show, although details about his involvement remain unclear.

Uatu, also known as the Watcher, is a fifth-dimensional being who observes the Multiverse from the Nexus of All Realities. Despite his vow of non-interference, he intervenes when Ultron, wielding the Infinity Stones, threatens the Multiverse. Uatu gathers heroes like Captain Carter, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Erik Killmonger, Gamora, Thor, and later Black Widow to create the Guardians of the Multiverse. He initially appeared in the ‘What If…?’ animated series and later featured in an episode of the ‘I Am Groot’ animated shorts.
