A new “Resident Evil” movie is on the way, and it is getting a fresh start with horror director Zach Cregger behind it. The film is set to arrive in theaters on September 18, and a new trailer has already been released.

According to details shared by the studio and production team, the story follows a character named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams. He is a medical courier who ends up caught in a violent and chaotic night where survival becomes the only goal. The film is described as a fast-moving horror-action story set inside the world of the popular video game franchise.

The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. Cregger not only directed the movie but also wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten. The film is produced by Robert Kulzer, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash, while several others are listed as executive producers.

This new version continues a long history of “Resident Evil” adaptations. The video game series first inspired a film franchise in the early 2000s, starting with the 2002 movie directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. That series went on to include multiple sequels released over the years.

There have also been other attempts to expand the franchise beyond the main film series. A prequel movie titled “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” came out in 2021. Around the same time, Netflix released both an anime series called “Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness” and a live-action show titled “Resident Evil,” although the show only lasted one season.

The video game franchise itself is still active and successful. The latest main game, “Resident Evil Requiem,” was released recently and received strong reviews and sales, showing that interest in the series remains high.

Zach Cregger, who is leading this new film, is known for his work in horror. He recently directed the film “Weapons,” which performed well at the box office and earned strong attention in the genre. His involvement has added extra interest in this new adaptation, especially among horror fans.

The film is being released by Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures, according to studio information.

This new “Resident Evil” film has a lot of pressure on it because the franchise already has many versions, some successful and some not. But having a strong horror director like Zach Cregger attached could bring a more focused and intense style to the story. It will be interesting to see if this version finally stands out from the earlier adaptations. What do you think about another “Resident Evil” movie reboot? Share your thoughts in the comments.
