Zack Snyder Makes a Surprise Cameo on ‘The Studio’ and Jokes About the Snyder Cut

The Apple TV+ series The Studio is known for featuring big-name filmmakers playing themselves. So far, the show has seen cameos from directors like Martin Scorsese (Flowers of the Killer Moon), Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), Olivia Wilde (Don’t Worry Darling), Parker Finn (Smile), and Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors).
They all interact with Matt Remick (played by Seth Rogen), the new head of the fictional Continental Studios.
However, one of the latest episodes surprised fans with a cameo from none other than Zack Snyder. Unlike the other filmmakers, Snyder appears outside the studio setting. In episode 8, titled “The Golden Globes,” he shows up during a star-filled segment. The episode also features Adam Scott (Severance), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Jean Smart (Hacks), Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing), Ramy Youssef (#1 Happy Family USA), and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
The plot follows Matt’s attempt to get Zoë Kravitz, the actress and director of Blink Twice, to thank him in her Golden Globe acceptance speech.
Snyder appears on stage to present the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. Ramy Youssef introduces him as “a man who has done neither” of those genres. Snyder then cracks a joke about his own work, saying:
“For any of you who felt like the show has gone by too fast, or felt that it’s not nearly long enough, don’t worry: I’ll be releasing a six-hour, black-and-white, 4:3 version of the show, Snyder Cut-style, on digital download and Blu-ray for $29.99.”
This joke is a clear nod to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the four-hour director’s cut that was released on HBO Max in 2021. Originally shot by Snyder, the film was later completed by Joss Whedon in 2017.
Snyder’s version kept his vision intact, including the 4:3 aspect ratio, which was presented as his intended format.
Seth Rogen, who stars in The Studio, is known for his own love of superhero stories. He has been involved in projects like The Green Hornet, The Boys, Invincible, Preacher, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
The show has also featured other superhero movie stars like Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Brave New World), Paul Dano (The Batman), Charlize Theron (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), and stars from The Boys series, Erin Moriarty and Antony Starr.
New episodes of The Studio air every Tuesday on Apple TV+.
