Zoë Kravitz has built one of the most interesting careers in Hollywood, moving easily between blockbusters, indie projects and her own work behind the camera. Her next starring role is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about comedy projects coming to Apple.

The film is ‘Die Alive’, the latest from writer-director Megan Park, and it took a long route to get here. Before any stars were attached, Park’s spec script set off a bidding war among some of the biggest studios in the business.

On October 14, Kravitz was photographed filming ‘Die Alive’ in New York City, in images shared by Page Six via BACKGRID. The photos show her walking down a tree-lined street holding an iced coffee, with a film camera rig close by.

Her character’s wardrobe looked casual and lived-in. Kravitz wore an oversized dark brown coat over a gray tank top, a flowing pale lime satin midi skirt, and brown heels, with her hair pulled up into a loose, slightly messy updo. In one shot, a child on a scooter can be seen nearby, which may hint at the film’s family-centered story.

The premise is a promising setup for a comedy-drama. A woman discovers that her older boyfriend has a wife and children, and she unexpectedly ends up caring for them. People familiar with the project have compared it to ‘Big Daddy’ and ‘Stepmom’.

That description fits the set photos. Kravitz’s relaxed outfit, the residential New York street and the young extra on a scooter all suggest a story about a woman suddenly thrown into family life she never expected.

The project got Hollywood’s attention early. In May, Park’s script drew interest from Warner Bros., Sony, Universal, Apple, Amazon, and Netflix, even though no stars were attached yet. Insiders described the script as genuinely funny.

Apple Original Films won the deal. The project is independently financed and was greenlit by FilmNation, with Apple Studios behind the release. Kravitz was announced as the lead in June 2026.

‘Die Alive’ is Park’s follow-up to ‘My Old Ass’, which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. That film starred Maisy Stella as a young woman named Elliott and Aubrey Plaza as her older self, and it earned Park nominations from the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America.

Park is reuniting with LuckyChap Entertainment, the company founded by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr, which also produced ‘My Old Ass’. Ackerley and Bronte Payne are producing the new film for the company.

Kravitz will be joined by Adèle Exarchopoulos, whose casting was reported in August. The role marks the French actress’s first lead in an American studio film. Her character hasn’t been officially revealed, though some reports have speculated she could be playing the boyfriend’s wife. If so, the dynamic between her and Kravitz could be central to both the comedy and the emotional side of the film.

There’s still some uncertainty about the name. Some reports have described ‘Die Alive’ as a working title, and Apple has at times presented the project as untitled, so the film could end up with a different name by release. No release date has been announced yet. With production now underway in New York, more set photos and casting news are likely in the coming weeks.

For Kravitz, ‘Die Alive’ offers something different from the darker, genre-driven work she’s often known for. A grounded, heartfelt comedy about an unexpected family could show a lighter side of her as a performer. With Park’s sharp writing, LuckyChap producing, and Apple backing it, the film is quickly becoming one to watch.
