Ruben Fleischer is gearing up for another round of zombie-filled chaos with a potential third installment of the hit comedy-horror franchise, Zombieland. The director, who recently worked on Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, revealed that plans for Zombieland 3 are in early talks, with a target release in 2029.

Speaking about the project, Fleischer said, “I’m hoping that we’ll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029. We’re starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, ‘We’ll see you in 10 years.’ That’s coming up now, and so we’re starting to figure that out, so I’m hoping that’ll come together.”

He added that other projects are also in the works, and the final schedule will depend on which project moves forward first.

The first Zombieland debuted in 2009 to positive reviews and quickly became a fan favorite for its clever mix of comedy and zombie action. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin led a cast praised for its comedic timing and chemistry. Critics appreciated the film’s fresh take on the zombie genre, with its witty script, creative kills, and unique “rules” of survival.

A decade later, Zombieland: Double Tap hit theaters in 2019, continuing the story of the original survivors. The sequel received mixed-to-positive reviews. While audiences enjoyed the return of the beloved characters and the over-the-top set pieces, some critics felt it lacked the novelty and tight pacing of the first film. Still, it was commercially successful and reinforced the franchise’s popularity, setting the stage for a potential third chapter.

If Zombieland 3 follows the planned 2029 release, it would mark two decades since the franchise began. Fans can likely expect more of the franchise’s signature mix of comedy, action, and inventive zombie mayhem.

With Fleischer at the helm again and the original cast potentially returning, expectations are high. The key will be balancing the humor and action that made the first film a hit with fresh ideas to keep the story engaging after so many years.
