Zootopia 2 is racing toward one of the biggest opening stretches ever recorded, with early numbers showing huge interest around the world. The sequel has already crossed the 100-million-dollar mark before its first full weekend, and industry trackers say this is only the beginning.

One of the biggest surprises is China. The country has pushed back hard on many Hollywood releases in recent years, but this film appears to be an exception. Reports suggest that the animated sequel could even challenge the opening performance of Avengers: Endgame in the region, something almost no one expected. China has brought in around 80 million dollars so far, matching the film’s early earnings in North America.

Disney is coming off a difficult year, with several major titles not meeting expectations. The strong start for Zootopia 2 is giving the studio a much-needed win as it heads into the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Disney’s earlier hit this year, the Lilo & Stitch remake, was the only Hollywood movie to reach a billion dollars worldwide, while others fell short.

Analysts expect the movie to earn around 160 million dollars during its extended North American debut. Projections for China are even higher, with some estimates going up to 200 million dollars over five days. When adding revenue from other countries, the film could reach roughly 550 million dollars worldwide by Sunday. If it hits those numbers, Zootopia 2 would place among the top ten biggest global openings in film history.

As of November 28, the movie stands at 133.2 million dollars worldwide. That includes 59.2 million dollars from the domestic market and 74 million dollars internationally.

Zootopia 2 is shaping up to be not only one of the strongest animated releases in recent years but also a major comeback moment for Disney. All eyes are now on how high the film can climb once the full weekend results roll in.
