‘Zootopia 2’ Already Managed to Outshine ‘Superman’ By Breaking This Notable Record

Zootopia 2 has already beaten the total box office of Superman. The animated hit has made $617 million worldwide, just edging past Superman’s $616.7 million total.

In the United States and Canada, Zootopia 2 has earned $170 million, while it collected $447 million in other countries.

Superman, for comparison, made $354.2 million in the U.S. and Canada and $262.5 million internationally. Variety reports that Superman was expected to earn around $125 million in theatrical profit.

Zootopia 2 was expected to make over $125 million in the U.S. and Canada during the five-day Thanksgiving weekend and $270 million worldwide, according to Deadline Hollywood. The movie exceeded those expectations, making $158 million in North America and $560.3 million worldwide in its first weekend. This opening made it the highest-grossing animated film globally and the fourth-highest among all films for an opening weekend.

The movie performed especially well in China, where it made $271.6 million in its opening weekend. It even became the first Hollywood movie to make over $100 million in a single day, on Saturday, November 29.

Critics are loving it too. On Rotten Tomatoes, 92% of 173 reviews were positive. The site said, “Cleverly laying a thoughtful message onto another crackerjack caper while solidifying Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as one of the most endearing buddy pairings in ages, Zootopia 2 more than justifies a return trip to the big city.” Metacritic gave it a score of 73 out of 100 based on 39 reviews, showing generally favorable opinions.

Audiences are giving it high marks as well. CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of “A,” the same as the first Zootopia. PostTrak reported that 87% of viewers liked it, and 65% said they would definitely recommend it.

Zootopia 2 isn’t just breaking records; it’s proving that animated movies can make a huge global impact.
