Zootopia 2 is already making noise at the Chinese box office. Early numbers from local presale trackers show the film jumping ahead of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which has been one of the biggest anime releases of the year and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’.

At first, the movie was selling fewer tickets, but it gained speed fast and is now leading the race. Industry sources in China say it is performing at a level only a few Hollywood movies have reached there since Avatar: The Way of Water.

The strong demand is pushing expectations higher. Box office analysts in the country believe the sequel could make more than 200 million dollars in its first weekend in China if momentum continues.

Deadline Hollywood also reports that in North America, the movie is expected to bring in over 125 million dollars across the Thanksgiving stretch.

The film brings back the main cast from the first movie and adds several new names. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde return for another case, this time involving a mysterious reptile who has arrived in the city.

The movie is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 13, and will be released in the United States on November 26.

With strong buzz in China and solid projections in the United States, Zootopia 2 is shaping up to be one of Disney’s biggest titles of the year, showing that the brand still has a strong and loyal audience.
