‘Monster High,’ a fashion doll line created by Garrett Sander and launched by Mattel in 2010, is targeted at children aged 7 to 14 and ranks as the second-best-selling doll brand in North America. Inspired by monster movies, sci-fi horror, folklore, myths, and popular culture, it has expanded into a multimedia franchise that includes over ten books, video games, merchandise, a TV series, a web series, and 17 movies. The success of the dolls led to the creation of a diverse ‘Monster High’ universe, offering a comprehensive entertainment experience for fans.

Since there are quite a few movies on this watch order, we decided to create this guide through the ‘Monster High’ cinematic universe.

The premise of the Monster High franchise follows a group of teenage children of famous monsters that attend a high school called Monster High together. There is a variety of characters that are introduced through the years, but there are five original characters: Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, Lagoona Blue, Cleo de Nile. Here are the movies in release date order:

All 17 ‘Monster High’ movies in chronological order

The thing with the ‘Monster High’ franchise is that the movies often tie in with doll lines, and those movies/specials often feature a unique standalone storyline. The only exception to this is the movie released in 2016 ‘Welcome to Monster Hight’ which serves as sort of an origin story for the school. Let’s see the best chronological order.

1. ‘Welcome to Monster High’ (2016)

This is sort of the origin story for the ‘Monster High’ universe as we see Draculara and her friends striving to create a school that welcomes both monsters and humans. The storyline follows that journey.

2. ‘Monster High: New Ghoul at School’ (2010)

The movie follows Frankie Stein as she embarks on her journey at Monster High, navigating the challenges of high school life with her unique and all-new body. The story unfolds during her first week at the school, introducing Frankie’s character and her experiences in this monster-filled educational setting.

3. ‘Monster High: Fright On!’ (2011)

In this crossover event, witness the fusion of student bodies from an all-vampire school and an all-werewolf school as they integrate with Monster High.

4. ‘Monster High: Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?’ (2012)

The storyline revolves around Draculaura as she celebrates her 1600th birthday. However, her high expectations lead to a dilemma when faced with choosing between her current boyfriend, Clawd, and a new vampire heartthrob, Valentine, her previous fling. As her ghoulfriends uncover Valentine’s peculiar actions, including creating a holiday in her honor named after himself, they embark on a mission to stop him from stealing Draculaura’s heart.

5. ‘Monster High: Escape from Skull Shores’ (2012)

During spring break, Lagoona invites her friends to the Great Scarrier Reef. However, their ship is attacked by a Kraken and sinks, leaving them stranded on a raft. They encounter two humans, Bartleby Farnum and his assistant Kipling, who save them with plans to exhibit the young monsters. Farnum, intrigued by Frankie’s resemblance to an explorer, uses her as bait to capture the elusive Beast of Skull Shores.

6. ‘Monster High: Ghouls Rule’ (2012)

In ‘Monster High: Ghouls Rule,’ the freaky-fab guys and ghouls of Monster High find themselves wrongly accused of Halloween high jinks by a group of normies. The storyline unfolds as they face the challenge of proving their innocence in time for a spooktacular celebration, navigating the misunderstandings and spooky situations that arise during the Halloween festivities.

7. ‘Monster High: Friday Night Frights’ (2013)

When the boys are unable to compete in the Skulltimate Roller Maze Championships, Frankie Stein rallies her friends, emphasizing the need for “ghoul power” to step in and save the day. The storyline revolves around the girls taking charge and showcasing their unique abilities to ensure their participation and success in the roller maze competition.

8. ‘Monster High: Scaris, City of Frights’ (2013)

In ‘Monster High: Scaris, City of Frights,’ Clawdeen Wolf and her friends embark on a new chapter in Scaris, discovering hidden secrets as they navigate the challenges of their new life in the city.

9. ‘Monster High: 13 Wishes’ (2013)

In ‘Monster High: 13 Wishes,’ a new school year begins at Monster High, and Howleen dreams of popularity. Her wish becomes a reality when she discovers a genie who grants her not three but 13 wishes. In ‘Monster High: Freaky Fusion,’ ten cute ghoul girls from Monster High are sent 200 years back in time to the school’s founding. However, upon their return to 2014, the time machine malfunctions, fusing eight of them into four bodies.

12. ‘Monster High: Haunted’ (2015)

Spectra Vondergeist returns to her old ghost school to investigate why Monster High is being haunted. She discovers that the low spirits are due to the oppressive rules and detention chains imposed by the Principal.

13. ‘Monster High: Boo York, Boo York’ (2015)

The ghouls of Monster High visit Boo York City for the historic passing of the Crystal Comet. However, they get entangled in a cosmic event that threatens to change their lives forever. The storyline follows their journey through Boo York City, facing challenges and discovering secrets as they navigate the glamorous and otherworldly environment, all set against the backdrop of the cosmic phenomenon.

14. ‘Monster High: Great Scarrier Reef’ (2016)

However, a sinister plan to destroy Monster High puts her identity at risk, potentially leading to her expulsion from school. The central conflict focuses on whether she can embrace her true monster heart, overcome the threat to Monster High, and ultimately save the day.

17. ‘Monster High 2’ (2023)

A sequel to the 2022 live-action adaptation. Clawdeen Wolf has gained fame for saving Monster High from Edward “Eddy” Hyde Jr. At Draculaura’s back-to-school party, Clawdeen expresses dissatisfaction with her newfound popularity. On the first day back, Toralei Stripe, a werecat who opposes half-monsters and witchcraft, makes a dramatic entrance. Clawdeen stands up to Toralei, leading to a confrontation. Later, Clawdeen encounters a group led by Demi Boovais, who reveals that she came to Monster High because of Clawdeen, being half-monster herself. Meanwhile, Draculaura encounters a new vampire student named Ellis, sparking mutual interest between them.

All animated movies in the ‘Monster High’ franchise can only be rented on Apple TV stores, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, and similar digital storefronts. The live-action movies released in 2022 and 2023 can be streamed directly on Paramount+.

Will there be more ‘Monster High’ movies?

‘Monster High 2’ was released recently, and there is no news whether new movie is coming our way. I guess it depends on the success of the second movie overall and how well the toys will sell. In any case, we will updated you when we have more news.
