Welcome to the Ending Explained for The Marriage App, a new Argentinian romantic comedy that arrives on Netflix this week. The movie takes the conventions of the genre and adds a twist to the entire dating app boom to create an app service that seems both useful but also completely terrifying. The film is directed by Sebastian De Caro and stars Luisana Lolipato and Juan Minujin. The film tells the story of a couple, Belen and Federico. The couple is having a hard time in their relationship, and they try to use a new app called Equilibrium to fix their marriage.

The premise for The Marriage App sound completely insane, and as the movie progresses, the characters’ behavior becomes more and more unhinged. This is great, but there is definitely the need to do something here when it comes to bringing the plot back to reality. The comedy is hit or miss, but it absolutely has something to say about relationships and how we treat each other when we are in one. The balance between what the individual and what the couple wants will always be a hard one to achieve.

Why Are Belen And Federico Using The Marriage App?

The film begins with the introduction of our main characters, Belen and Federico. We start right at the moment when they meet. It all happens in an accident when Federico crashes against Belen’s car and basically detaches one of her doors from the vehicle. Federico apologizes and says that everything will be fine. However, he also takes his chance and asks Belen on a date. She believes he is joking, but he is really asking for a date. We jump forward in time, and we see that Federico and Belen are married and have two kids.

Belen is the owner of a small toy store, while Federico works as a dentist. It is revealed that Federico’s real passion is to cook, and he and his friends have formed a group of cooks who have been selected for competition in Mexico. Federico says to his friends he will tell Belen about the competition, but he is interrupted by when he is informed they need to go on a date with another couple. There, they realize that the boring couple they knew doesn’t exist anymore. In its place, they now seem to be extremely in love with each other.

The couple shares the secret of their happiness, a new app called Equilibrium. Belen and Federico make an appointment and go to the meeting. At the place of the meeting, they explained what Equilibrium is all about. The app basically turns each action they do into miles they can exchange for prices like trips and other things. If someone does something to make the other happy, they win miles; if they do something that can hurt or make the other unhappy, they lose points.

Belen and Federico accept the proposal and choose to use the app. In a couple of weeks, they transform from a loving couple into a very touchy and horny one. They are always completing each other and making each other happy through gifts or little details. Federico wants to win miles, so he can pay for his trip to Mexico with them. He still hasn’t told Belen about it, as he feels she will get mad and say he is only thinking about himself. When he sees that he cannot win enough miles in time for the trip, he buys his ticket with his own money.

How Does The Marriage App Affect The Relationship Between Belen and Federico?

Belen and Federico’s kids are disgusted by the way they behave. They feel like their affection is completely fake, and they are doing it just for the miles. Federico asks Belen what she truly wants, and she explains that she wants to get away from the house o a trip. They do just that, and it all seems well. It seems that the app has really allowed them to appreciate each other and what each of them brings to the relationship. Federico is about to talk to her about the trip to Mexico, but he is interrupted once again.

In the middle of the night, Federico awakes and receives a message from one of his friends detailing how everything is now ready for the trip. Belen is not asleep, and she listens to the message. Now she knows about the trip, and she is angry because Federico didn’t tell her. Belen is angry, and she plans to get her revenge. She knows Federico is saving miles for the trip to Mexico, so she recruits one of her friends to come one night, and the situation evolves into a possible threesome.

The next morning, Federico awakes, and he believes he had a threesome last night. However, something is wrong. He starts losing miles, a lot of them. Belen explains to him that she is winning miles because she made one of her fantasies a reality, and he just got horny for another woman in front of her. Federico cannot believe he fell into the trap and plans something with his friends to win his miles back. They pretend to rob Belen so that Federico can come and save her. It works, and Federico gains many miles.

At the Equilibrium party, they are presented as the best couple of the year, but Belen discovers that the robber is one of Federico’s friends. She reveals that the threesome never happened and that he was just drugged with a sleeping pill. Federico tries to apologize, but it is over, and they separate. Sometime later, Federico opened his own restaurant, and he is closer to his children. In the end, he reconnects with Belen, having grown from their experience, and they introduce themselves once again as strangers ready to start their relationship from scratch.
