Welcome to the Ending Explained for In Love All Over Again, a new romance TV series that has arrived on Netflix just in time for Valentine’s season. The series is backed by the creator of Elite, one of the platform’s most popular Spanish TV series. The result is a TV series that feels very much like something out of teenage fan fiction. The series is supposed to talk about love and relationships and place its characters in the world of film and entertainment, but it does very little with that scenario.

You would think the show would take the chance to explore and analyze how film colors our views on relationships and love in general. Still, the series uses the setting more as a source of conflict between the characters, and everything ends up feeling quite predictable and annoying. The actors do a good job, but the script fails them by creating very uninteresting situations for the characters. It is really something when you don’t care if the main characters are supposed to get together in a story whose main goal is just that.

Why Is The Show Called “In Love All Over Again”?

The series begins with the introduction of our main character, Irene. She is a very smart and lovely girl who dreams of becoming a movie director. She goes to school for it and meets the people who would be her best friends there. However, she also begins to think that maybe she doesn’t have the talent to become a movie director. We also meet Julio, a very handsome young man studying to become a lawyer. Destiny will bring these two together one night as they go to the same theater and see the same movie.

Irene, who is looking for potential actors to be in one of her short films, gets interested in Julio. He seems like the perfect choice, as he is incredibly handsome and also has a vulnerable quality that she likes. The pair meet, and they go out that same night. By the end of the day, it is clear that they are in love with each other. However, their beautiful moment is cut short when a bomb explodes on the train the pair is riding. On top of that, Rafe, Irene’s ex-boyfriend, makes an appearance, and that is the first time Julio and Irene get separated.

The show’s title points out that this will be a recurring event. Julio and Irene are clearly in love with each other, and they work very well together, but life just seems to get in the way of their love, and they would break up constantly throughout the years. The series shows us their lives throughout a 20-year timeline. The characters never seem to grow old, but at least their lives are certainly changing, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

The series also uses a non-linear structure to tell its story, so we constantly jump back and forth in time through those 20 years. In contrast to the way they were so in love in the past, we see Julio and Irene in the present, and Irene wants nothing to do with Julio. Julio is now a famous actor and film director, while Irene never really achieves her dreams of doing features and works mostly in commercials. We are told that Julio has made a movie for Irene, but she doesn’t want to see it.

Do Julio and Irene End Up Together?

Many things happen during those 20 years, but one of the biggest and most important storylines is that Julio becomes a famous actor. The same day Julio met Irene, he also met a famous director, who cast him in a movie in a small role. Julio took the opportunity and liked it so much that he started acting full-time. Irene suggests that he should take acting classes in a theater, and he does it. He wants to be a good actor, not just a pretty face on the screen.

Julio’s work as an actor becomes more and more significant to him. He even gets nominated for a Goya, which is basically the Oscar for the Spain film industry, and he wins it. It all seems to be going well, but the relationship also starts showing its cracks. When Julio has to go to the awards ceremony, he invites Irene as his companion, as he should because she is his girlfriend. However, just before leaving for the ceremony, Irene begins acting strange, saying she doesn’t belong with people like that. Leaving Julio no other choice but go to the ceremony with someone else.

In the present, Julio tries to connect with Irene many times, but she has moved on from him, or so she says she has. She is about to marry Rafe, her old ex-boyfriend, which is a clear mistake. Nevertheless, she tries to look like everything is fine with her. Irene finally watches Julio’s film and becomes extremely moved by it. She calls him and leaves him a message, saying sorry for being such a pain in the ass.

However, if she takes the job, she would need to leave now. And so the season ends with Irene choosing between her dreams and her wedding.
