‘From’ Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained: Who Are Elgin & Old Chained-up Man?
The first season of ‘From‘ ended up on several cliffhangers. We’ve seen a bus full of people arriving in the town. Tabitha fell into a hole she dug up herself in the basement, and Boyd was stuck inside a narrow shaft, seemingly left to die. Most of those mysteries have been resolved following the release of the first episode of the second season of From, and we’ve been presented with many more. Namely, the first episode introduced several characters that will play an important role in the rest of the season and might play a huge part in resolving the current situation of everyone involved in this deadly game of hide and seek.
Having said that, let’s analyze the latest episode of From to see whether we can figure out who the newcomer Elgin is and the chained-up old many that seemingly rescued Boyd.
Who is Elgin & What did he dream about?
One of the most important events during Episode 1 is when a bus filled with newcomers arrives in town. Even before the bus parked in front of the diner, one passenger named Elgin started panicking, and it seemed like he recognized the place. He stood up in the middle of the bus and demanded they turn around since where bad things were going to take place.
The bus driver decided to proceed with the ride, claiming that they had only made a slight detour and would proceed with their normal route as soon as possible. Still, Elgin stands up and starts vomiting. His health condition is seemingly worsening the longer they are in town. He tries to explain that he had a dream, and it’s possible that he dreamt of this place and of the dark things that take place as soon as night falls.

Elgin had a seizure when he got off the bus, so we didn’t have a chance to hear much dialogue or any kind of explanation for him. Just to remind you, every time a person inside the town has a seizure, they are somehow connected to the supernatural happening inside the town. Sarah had seizures before she murdered her brother. She claimed she could hear voices that told her things about town residents that no one else could know.
Young Ethan likewise had a seizure as soon as he got into town, and it seems that he is connected to Victor – the oldest resident in the town currently.
Elgin has dreams connected to the town and a seizure, signifying that he will have a major role in the rest of the season.
Where are Tabitha and & Victor
Both Tabitha and Victor were involved in the cliffhanger finale of season 1. Tabitha was digging the hole in the basement throughout the majority of the first season. She was trying to figure out where the magical electricity was coming from since the wiring inside the house and the town seemed to be defunct.
On the other hand, Victor disappeared on the same night when the monsters managed to infiltrate the community house. Both Tabitha and Victor found themselves in the same place when Tabitha’s hole collapsed fully, and she seemingly got stuck in a giant sinkhole in the basement of the house.
Victor and Tabitha were under the town, in some kind of natural cavern where the monsters sleep during the day. The whole dreadful underground scenery was finished with touches of personal items that seemingly belonged to the monsters who could be seen sleeping in the walls of the caverns. A wedding dress, coffers, and child-sized wheelbarrows are just some of the items that Victor and Tabitha came across.

As soon as the two ran into a doll, Victor got too scared to continue. In the meantime, monsters started waking up, which meant that Tabitha and Victor had to escape the tunnels as soon as possible. Tabitha managed to find her resolve and escape with Victor. After leaving the tunnels, they found themselves somewhere in the middle of the forest.
The Matthews house collapsed on top of Jim, Tom, and several newcomers
The hole that Tabitha dug in the basement resulted in the basement and much of the first floor collapsing inside the house. Whatever supernatural force was in charge of everything inside the town definitely did not want Tabitha to realize where the electricity was coming from. So the basement and the first floor collapsed.
Jim figured out that Tabitha must be somewhere inside the hole. The hole was filled with debris and ruined furniture that rained from above. Tom, the local bartender, and two people from the bus arrived to help Jim with his rescue efforts, but the more they tried to clear up the debris from the whole, the house was nearing its total collapse.
At one point, the whole Matthews house collapsed on top of Jim, Tom, and the two newcomers. With only one person getting out of this whole mess unharmed. Another newcomer, Jim, and Tom are now stuck under the collapsed house with several tons of wood and debris covering them. It’s unknown whether they will be able to survive the night. Perhaps if they stay quiet enough and they do not succumb to their injuries.

Tom, the local bartender, seems to be involved in the supernatural happenings around town. He played a relatively minor role in the first season and was nowhere to be seen when the survivors tried to get the radio tower to work. However, he did take great interest in the hole that trapped Tabitha under the rubble.
Kristi’s fiance shows up, complicating her relationship with Kenny
In the finale of the first season, Kenny goes all out regarding his feelings toward Kristi, the local doctor. She says that their relationship can’t continue in that sense since before she got stuck inside this town, she was engaged to be married.
When I saw that bus parked in front of the diner, I knew Kristi’s fiance would be on it, and I was right. Kristi’s fiance was the female nurse who did her best to treat Elgin and his bizarre seizures. The two accidentally run into each other and reunite in a touching scene, with Kenny observing the whole affair heartbroken from afar.

Who is the chained-up old man that saved Boyd from certain death?
As we all know, Boyd was stuck in the narrow shaft with no way to escape. All that remained was to either somehow climb up or die. Considering his space at this disposal and his poor physical condition following the spider bites, it looked like Boyd was about to die with no way to acquire food and water.
A miracle happened as Boyd wailed for help inside that shaft. The voice answered, asking him if he was real. Boyd was affirmative and asked for help. A rope was thrown at him, and Boyd managed to climb up inside a strange and ancient-looking room.
There was a rope wheel pulley over the shaft that he had just gotten out of, meaning he was not the first person to be stuck inside that shaft magically. What shocked Boyd, however, is that the person who helped him was alive and real, and it was an ancient-looking man chained to a wall.

Who the old chained man is, is so far unknown, but he can probably, due to his age and state, tell Boyd a bit more about this place, including what he did to survive all these years. However, the old man asked Boyd to kill him to end his agony.
Where is Sarah?
The last time we saw Sarah, she was trying to outrun evil with Boyd, and a small boy in white manifested to her and told her where they needed to go. Sarah told Boyd to hide in a tree trunk, leading to Boyd being stuck inside the shaft. We don’t know where Sarah searched for refuge, but she is probably still alive somewhere either under the town or she will resurface in some other random location since tree trunks seem to be wormholes that connect random far-away locations around the town.
In any case, Sarah, Boyd, the old chained-up, Elgin, Ethan, Victor, and Tabitha are now connected more than ever, and together they might be able to piece together all pieces of the puzzle.
