Why Are Woo And Woo-jing Looking To Capture Myeong-gil?

Bloodhounds is plural for a reason. Although at the start we are introduced to one main character, Woo, in reality, this is the story of two friends and how they join forces against the evil that wants to take advantage of those who cannot protect themselves. When we meet Woo for the first time, we see him taking a drunk man out of a bus. The people inside the bus then applauded him for his actions.

Right there, we learn tons about the character. We learn that he doesn’t have to think too much to jump into action when he sees wrongdoing. He is also very polite, humble, and quite capable. He seems like a good young man. A well-raised one.

We learn that Woo is a boxer, a very talented one. His style is very calm, but each one of his strikes packs a bloody punch. We see him entering a tournament, and there he seems to be shooting all the other fighters one after the other. At least until he needs to fight with a character named Woo-jin, who seems to be the opposite of Woo. To a fault, woo-jin is loud, arrogant, and confident of his own abilities. The two fight and Woo has to strike Woo-jin twice on the side to bring him down. Woo-jin is defeated and feels bad, but something unexpected happens when Woo invites him to eat meat.

During the dinner, the two start sharing stories, and they realize they have both been in the army and belong to the Marines. The pair quickly become best friends, and it is one of the best parts of the show. However, at the same time, we learn that Woo’s mother is having a bad time with her business. She owns a Café, but clients have been quite slow because they are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was a powerful low blown for many businesses. Her debt is considerable; it doesn’t seem enough even when Woo helps her with his winnings.

We also meet a reformed moneylender named Mr. Choi, who will greatly influence how Woo will behave in the future. Mr. Choi’s business seems to be helping people but doesn’t create a lot of profit. This doesn’t seem to bother the old man at all, though. In contrast, we meet an evil moneylender named Kim Myeong-gil, who tricks Woo’s mother and many other small business owners in the area into entering into a deal that will ultimately make them lose everything. Once Woo’s mother and Mr. Choi fall victim to Myeong-gil’s action, is when Woo and Woo-hin decide to join forces to stop this evil man.

Do Woo and Woo-jin Manage To Stop The Evil Myeong-gil?

Of course, as expected, Myeong-gil’s actions are met with Karma, especially after the death of Mr. Choi, a character that seemed to represent all the hope in the world and the fact that there is always a second chance, even for the most corrupt of people. However, for the likes of Myeong-gil, that opportunity needs to be taken. Some people don’t want that second chance in life and prefer to go the way of violence and destroy everything in their path. It is quite sad, but we, as audience members, know that Myeong-gil and his enterprise will not go well.

Myeong-gil’s plan to create a hotel-casino ended up being also the end of many small businesses, and he completely washes his hands from that outcome. However, Myeong-gil started little by little to bite off more than he could chew. The result is that he makes very bold moves that catch the attention of a very important man. Among these people, there is a man named Issa Hong. Myeong-gil tries to blackmail Hong, and Hong will not have it. He recruits the power of several members of the police and freelancers, such as Woo and Woo-jin, to take down Myeong-gil. The result is a manhunt and a police raid that basically stop Myeong-gil from being able to step onto Korean soil.

Myeong-gil escapes with billions of won in gold to Vietnam. However, he doesn’t count the fact that Woo and Woo-jin don’t have jurisdiction, as they don’t belong to any proper law enforcement organization. The pair follows Myeong-gil to Vietnam for a final showdown. Woo versus Myeong-gil.

Woo wins the match, and Myeong-gil is arrested. The gold goes back with them to Korea, and the two, alongside Hong, decide to use the money to help the people who need medical attention. This is something Mr. Choi would have wanted. Hong gives two pieces of gold to each of our heroes for their services. Woo and Woo-jin return to South Korea and meet with Woo’s mother again. A happy ending for everyone involved.
