One Piece: What Was Jewelry Bonney Doing in the Waterspout?
One Piece has an amazingly large number of secondary characters that have appeared over the series’ two-decade run. Some of these characters are more important, some are less, and in this article, we are going to tell you the most recent events surrounding one well-known character – Jewelry Bonney. Bonney suddenly appeared as a child out of a waterspout, and she was saved by the Straw Hats. What was she doing there? Why is she a child again? All these questions are going to be answered in this article, in which you will find out what happened to Bonney in Wano Country and during the beginning of the Egghead Arc.
After meeting Sabo, she was caught in a Warm Eddy
Since it is connected, we are going to start off this article with Bonney’s story in the Wano Country Arc. While looking for her father in Pangea Castle, she meets Sabo, and having guessed that both are there for the same reason, she reveals to him that she is the daughter of Bartholomew Kuma, whom she has continued to keep an eye on, thanks to the news about the revolutionaries so she confesses that she knows that he can trust them to save him. She then sees the boy hand Karasu the keys to the explosive collars and asks him to tell Morley that she must bring Kuma and the other freed slaves to headquarters as soon as possible.
When Karasu asks his partner what his next move will be, Sabo replies that he will join them as soon as he completes his other objective. The latter then asks the same question to Bonney, who claims that she is headed toward Egghead to convince Vegapunk to restore her father’s consciousness. Hearing some guards approaching her, Sabo grabs her and climbs onto a ceiling beam, from which she hears the men talking about the recent disappearance of several of their colleagues who had seen the legendary “Lost Chamber.”
Once outside the building, Sabo reveals that they will go in the opposite direction from her destination, wishing her good luck. Bonney is surprised that a revolutionary would be so apprehensive, so Sabo reminds her that they want to save the same person. She agrees with him and asks him to care for his father before separating. Hungry, she then hides in the hold of Tajine’s kingdom ship, which sets sail. At some point, she ended up being trapped in a Warm Eddy, a powerful current, which almost cost her her life.
The Straw Hats saved Jewelry Bonney, but she was a kid once again
As we have explained, Jewelry Bonney decided to sail alone to Egghead to convince Vegapunk to restore her father’s humanity, but her ship ended up devoured near the island by a giant steel shark and ended up in a waterspout in mid-air, risking drowning. However, the Straw Hat Pirates arrive at that moment with their ship, and Zoro cuts the mass of water in two while the Straw Hat grabs her, asking her who she is; she thanks and warns that there is a monster below them: the three end up in the sea, but Jinbe dives, bringing them back to the surface.
At that point, however, she notices that the shark is about to fire a cannon from its mouth toward them, so she tells the three to take a deep breath because it will move along the seabed to avoid being hit. Reaching a cave on a nearby island, the group dries their clothes.
Having returned to her normal appearance, she wonders if they don’t recognize her, explaining that she is also part of the Worst Generation and was also in Sabaody two years before. She then states that her name is Bonney and tells Luffy not to forget that they are her enemies, thanking him anyway for saving her, as well as being surprised that she is an emperor judging by her behavior. The girl then, thinking of the Straw Hats’ new wanted poster, state that they thought she had white hair, asking if the newspapers had caused any confusion.
Luffy replies that that is the form she takes when her body is free, but the pirate doesn’t understand her and asks him what happened to her companions, who he claims are fine. Bonney points out that it’s amazing that Jinbe is part of her crew, who asks her about her crew. She, the girl, reveals that she came there alone but that the steel shark ate her ship and that she is now hungry. Luffy suggests looking for a restaurant since he, too, is hungry, while Chopper asks him if he has money with him. Bonney, however, calls them ignorant since that is a World Government island, explaining that they are on Egghead, which is said to be like being five hundred years ahead in the future, as well as hosting Vegapunk’s laboratory, which she is looking for.
What happened next? Well… we won’t be spoiling that for you here! The goal of this article was to explain the waterspout “incident” and that we did. You know how and why she ended up there, as well as what happened immediately afterward, which is enough for the time being, but we are sure to follow Bonney’s story later on, so keep following us for more One Piece content!
