Yuki Tsukumo is a very interesting character from the Jujutsu Kaisen series, and her overall role in the series, despite her not having much screen time, is quite important. She is a maverick jujutsu sorcerer who is, incidentally, also a Special-grade sorceress (one of only four such characters), which means that she is exceptionally powerful. As you can see, many aspects of her story could be discussed in this article, but we are going to focus on her appearance in Shibuya, as you are going to find out why Yuki Tsukumo appeared in Shibuya to help the heroes against Kenjaku in the series.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Yuki Tsukomo was a maverick character; she was not a villain, but she was also never aligned with any organization because she rejected the ideals of the Higher Ups, but she also did not like the villains.
  • Still thinking that the main villain was a resurrected Geto, Yuki came and stopped Pseudo-Geto from causing further trouble, but she was not able to defeat him in the end.
  • Yuki did not agree with Pseudo-Geto’s views on the future of society, and she did not want to see a society devoid of humans, so she stood up to Pseudo-Geto.

Yuki Tsukumo is a maverick, but she is not a villain in the series

After the incident surrounding the murder of Riko at the hands of Toji and the truth about Tengen, Geto was in a very bad shape as his hatred for humans grew. While in school, Yuko came and decided to have a little chat with him.

She told Geto that she didn’t like the higher-ups because she thought they were just treating the symptoms and not the underlying issue; in other words, they were dealing with individual curses while neglecting the issue that caused the curses to appear in the first place. But although she saw the possibility of such a society and two means of getting there, none seemed strong enough to fulfill her longing for a world devoid of curses—one in which they would never even appear as symptoms. Geto suggested killing all non-sorcerers once Yuki revealed that they were the source of curses, but Yuki rejected this suggestion even though she knew it would accomplish the desired result.

She was against genocide, Geto suggested, and although the two of them shared the same goal, they did not agree on the methods. Yuki detested the higher-ups because she thought that they only dealt with the symptoms of the disease while not treating the cause, which was more important to her. And that is, actually, her personal ideology. This explains a lot about her and her motivations, so we thought it was important to explain it before we actually continue to what happened in Shibuya.

What was Yuki Tsukumo’s goal? She came to Shibuya to stop the creation of Kenjaku’s society!

As for Yuki Tsukumo’s goal in the series, she didn’t really have one precise goal when she came to Sukuna. Sure, she wanted to rid the world of curses – as we explained – but not in the same way. When she found out that Pseudo-Geto (you have to understand that at that point, she still believed she was fighting Geto, not Kenjaku) was causing trouble in Shibuya, she came to stop it.

Now, her motivations were not explained properly, but knowing her ideology as well as well as what happened in the series, we can deduce why she came. She knew Geto’s ideals, and when she found out what was going on in Shibuya from the other characters, she came to help. She did not want to see Geto’s vision of the world come to life, and since she herself was a powerful S-Grade Sorceress, she knew that she could help.

There was no special motivation behind her save for the fact that she wanted to help retain the current order of things. She wanted to help the heroes against whom she believed was Suguru Geto, actually Kenjaku, and that was it. She did not join them, nor did she abandon her maverick ideals in that aspect – she simply came to help against a character she thought was an enemy, and he was.

It is irrelevant here that she thought she was fighting the actual Suguru Geto and not Kenjaku since she would’ve stood up to both of them, but Kenjaku was an even bigger threat in her eyes, so she was even more focused on eliminating him from the field.
