“Deadpool & Wolverine” was released just over a week ago, smashing box-office records and garnering critical acclaim. The movie marks Wolverine’s and Deadpool’s debut in the MCU, along with the return of legacy Marvel characters like Garner’s Elektra, Snipes’ Blade, and Evans’ Human Torch.

Among these legacy characters is X-23 from the Fox X-Men franchise, portrayed by Dafne Keen. Despite Keen’s repeated denials about her involvement, her role was revealed just days before the movie’s worldwide premiere.

Including X-23 in the movie made perfect sense, given her significant role in ‘Logan’ (2017) and the numerous references to that film in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In the latest ‘Deadpool’ installment, we see an all-grown-up X-23, with Dafne Keen confirming in her recent appearance on Phase Zero that the MCU version is the same character we saw in ‘Logan.’

I was like, so how long has it been, am I a variant, what’s going on and they were like: “not variant, you went along with kids for a few years and then you got zapped and you’ve been in the TVA for a few years now. You lost your accent beacuse you were in America for a while and like Canada and stuff, you’ve lost your accent, you’re a very intelligent kid, you learned English while you were with Logan, like, you’re clever. To you, you are Logan’s Laura and so seeing this person is whoa this is my dad, who I haven’t seen in years.”

Keen discussed what happened to her character between the events of ‘Logan’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ though she did not explain why the TVA “zapped” her in the first place.

Given the movie’s context, it seems likely that, like other legacy characters, she posed a threat to Mr. Paradox’s plan to annihilate reality efficiently. Consequently, she was removed from her timeline and placed in the Void, a containment zone for superheroes who could potentially disrupt his plans. In the movie, Cassandra Nova oversees the Void in exchange for total rule, as part of a deal with Paradox.

Keen expressed her eagerness to reprise her role in future projects, and fans are rallying online, petitioning for her to be the MCU’s Wolverine.
