Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is off to a rough start in 2024, kicking off the year with the major flop ‘Madame Web.’ However, there are still opportunities for redemption with two major releases on the horizon: ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and the concluding chapter of the ‘Venom’ franchise.

Yes, you read that right—‘Venom: The Last Dance’ marks the final installment in the series, and its latest trailer has just dropped. While the appearance of numerous symbiotes was hinted at, the reveal still caught many fans by surprise.

The trailer features a figure with long hair seated on a throne, who looks remarkably similar to Knull, the King of Symbiotes.

Knull, an eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes, emerged from the primordial void and declared war on the Celestials when they invaded his realm with light. After rejecting his role as the King in Black, he forged the first symbiote into a sword, decapitated a Celestial, and enhanced the blade with its divine power. Stranded on a nameless planet, he discovered his ability to bond with lesser creatures using amorphous parasites, establishing his dominion over the symbiotes and becoming a cosmic force of terror.

As one of the most powerful and horrifying villains in Marvel comics, many fans were disappointed to see Sony tackle his character, given the studio’s poor track record with Spider-Man’s supporting characters and others in their rights portfolio.

Yes, be afraid—very afraid. Many fans had hoped to see Knull make his way into the MCU eventually, especially since Gorr has already appeared there. However, it seems that won’t happen anytime soon, which feels like a missed opportunity to craft an entire saga around him.

‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is now scheduled for release in the United States on October 25, 2024, in IMAX and other premium formats. Initially set for an October 2024 release, the date was shifted to July 12, 2024, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. After the strike ended, the release was postponed to November 8, 2024, before being moved back to the original October date.
