Deadpool & Wolverine has become the biggest superhero release of the year and the second-highest-grossing movie, trailing only Inside Out 2.

The film delivered on everything Marvel Studios promised, rekindling fans’ excitement for MCU releases while raking in huge box office numbers. With Deadpool and Wolverine now officially part of the MCU, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are back in the spotlight—potentially even as Oscar hosts this year.

As Oscar season approaches, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have plenty to anticipate. According to Deadline, the duo is being considered to host the Oscars, which isn’t surprising given their current status as Hollywood’s funniest pair.

Other stars like Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Dwayne Johnson have also been approached, though Johnson reportedly declines the offer every year.

While Reynolds and Jackman are seen as frontrunners, sources indicate they’re still undecided, with mixed signals about whether they want to take on the hosting role.

Additionally, Disney and Marvel are planning an Oscar campaign for Deadpool & Wolverine, pushing Reynolds for Lead Actor and Jackman for Supporting Actor.

Despite its massive box office success, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has received limited recognition at the Academy Awards, mostly in technical categories like visual effects. Standout nominations include Iron Man (2009), Iron Man 2 (2011), The Avengers (2013), Black Panther (2019), and Avengers: Endgame (2020), all acknowledged for Visual Effects.

Black Panther (2019) broke through with three Oscar wins for Costume Design, Original Score, and Production Design. Other notable nods include Guardians of the Galaxy (2015) for Makeup and Hairstyling, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2023), which also won for Costume Design, with Angela Bassett earning a Supporting Actress nomination.

Deadpool & Wolverine seems like an unlikely contender for major Oscar wins, but with Marvel and Disney reportedly pushing campaigns for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, it’s understandable why the actors might be hesitant about hosting the Oscars.
