It’s that time of the year again. Marvel fans are once again convinced that Mephisto is finally about to show up in the MCU. This time, the rumors are all about the upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart, which is set to premiere on June 24.

Mephisto has been a popular topic for years. He’s a powerful demon in Marvel comics who’s gone up against heroes like the Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange, and Scarlet Witch. And with the MCU diving deeper into magic through shows and movies like WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now Agatha All Along, fans believe it’s only a matter of time before he shows up.

The latest buzz started when Marvel Studios posted something on X (formerly Twitter) that caught everyone’s attention. It was an image showing the episode titles for Ironheart, and Episode 5 is called “Karma’s a Glitch.”

But here’s the thing: in that image, only the letter “M” in that episode title is outlined in red. That one detail has fans going wild. Mephisto is known for his red appearance, and of course, his name starts with an “M.”

Fans are filling the comment section with their theories. Many believe this red “M” is a not-so-hidden clue that Mephisto will appear in Episode 5.

This isn’t even the first time people have linked Mephisto to Ironheart. In the trailers, Anthony Ramos plays The Hood, and his character seems to be dealing with some kind of supernatural problem.

In the comics, The Hood is connected to Dormammu, a dark and powerful being from another dimension. But Dormammu already showed up in Doctor Strange, so fans think Marvel might change things up and make Mephisto his new master instead.

There were also reports all the way back in 2022 that actor Sacha Baron Cohen had joined the cast of Ironheart as Mephisto. Marvel never confirmed it, but it hasn’t been denied either. So fans think the studio might be saving that reveal as a big surprise during the show.

In 2023, Deadline Hollywood shared that Sacha Baron Cohen had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They said he might show up in the later episodes of Ironheart and could also appear in other future Marvel projects. According to the report, he’s likely playing Mephisto. If true, Cohen would play the role both on screen and with the help of visual effects.

No matter how exciting these theories might be, let’s not forget we’ve been here before. Not long ago, many fans were sure that Aubrey Plaza’s character was either Mephisto or working for him, until Funko Pops spoiled her true role before the big reveal. And of course, there were all the WandaVision theories about Mephisto that never came true. We’ve taken this path before, and it’s worth remembering how those turned out.

We won’t have to wait too long to find out. Ironheart is just days away from release. The series was created by Chinaka Hodge and is being produced by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. Dominique Thorne returns as Riri Williams, and she’s joined by new faces like Anthony Ramos, Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Regan Aliyah, and Shea Couleè.

Ironheart is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on June 24, 2025, with the first three of its six episodes. It will be the last television series and the conclusion of Phase Five of the MCU.

If the theories are right, Mephisto could finally be stepping into the MCU, and this time, fans are more sure than ever.
