A sci-fi show starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista called See is getting new attention on Apple TV+. The series first came out when Apple TV+ was just starting to build its collection of original shows.

Even though it launched alongside popular titles like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso, See didn’t get a big audience at first and ended quietly after three seasons in 2022.

Recently, See has been making a comeback. According to CBR, it has moved into the top ten most-watched shows on Apple TV+ worldwide. At one point, it climbed as high as number seven on the global charts. This is surprising because See is actually the oldest show on the list, having debuted a year before many others.

One reason for its slow start might be the mixed reactions to the first season. Critics gave season one a 44% score on Rotten Tomatoes. They said the story was confusing and the show relied too much on violence.

This may have stopped some people from watching it at the time. But things improved with the second season, which got an 83% rating. The third season hasn’t been rated yet, but reviews say it kept the momentum going. Since Apple TV+ was a new service when See began, viewers might not have trusted it enough to stay with the show through the rough start.

See is set far in the future after a virus wiped out most people and everyone lost the ability to see. In this world, sight is thought to be a myth, and people live in simple tribes without modern technology.

The story follows Baba Voss, played by Jason Momoa, who leads the Alkenny tribe. When a woman named Maghra gives birth to twins who can see, Baba Voss marries her and protects the children. These twins’ father, Jerlamarel, is hunted because the ability to see is forbidden.

The show takes place in a world split between two groups, the Payan Kingdom and the Trivantian Republic. The rulers and soldiers, like Queen Sibeth Kane and the Witchfinder General Tamacti Jun, are determined to stop anyone with sight.

Alongside Momoa, the cast includes Sylvia Hoeks as the queen, Hera Hilmar as Maghra, and Christian Camargo as the soldier hunting the sighted. The twins, Kofun and Haniwa, are played by Archie Madekwe and Nesta Cooper. Other cast members include Dave Bautista, Alfre Woodard, and more.

In my opinion, it’s interesting to see See getting the recognition it missed the first time. Sometimes shows need time to find their audience, especially when they start on a new platform. It also shows that early reviews don’t always tell the whole story. What do you think about See’s comeback? Have you watched the show or plan to check it out now?
