HBO Max Is Loading Up for Summer: Every New Movie and TV Show Arriving in June 2026

HBO Max is heading into summer with one of its most stacked monthly lineups in recent memory. In total, subscribers can expect 93 new additions across the month, not counting sports or AEW wrestling content, along with a new monthly spotlight collection.

The breadth of the slate is genuinely striking, stretching from prestige HBO originals and long-awaited returning series to a trio of A24 theatrical films making their streaming debut. Whether you skew toward fantasy epics, dark comedies, or animation, the platform has carved out considerable space for each.

‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Leads the Original Programming Push

The clear centerpiece of the month is the return of the platform’s biggest drama. HBO Max sees the return of ‘House of the Dragon’ with Season 3 kicking off June 21. Season 3 will be eight episodes long and will air weekly through August 9.

The ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 cast brings back Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, and Tom Glynn-Carney, with the show set 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’. Alicent had made the desperate decision to secretly travel to Dragonstone and surrender the Iron Throne to Rhaenyra to avoid more bloodshed, but that does not stop the powers that be from embarking on a full-scale war, with the Blacks and the Greens heading toward an inevitable battle.

The third season of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel will continue to explore the evolving dynamics of the Targaryen family, adapting George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’ novel across eight episodes. For subscribers who have been waiting since the end of Season 2, the weekly release model means the show will anchor HBO Max’s Sunday nights well into August.

A24 Films Bring Bold Cinema to the Streaming Slate

A few familiar A24 titles appear in the June 1 list, and more A24 hits head to HBO Max throughout June, including newer films ‘Pillion,’ ‘How to Make a Killing,’ and ‘Undertone,’ which all hit theaters this year and now make their streaming debut.

‘Pillion’ arrives June 5. A BDSM dark comedy and romance adapted from Adam Mars-Jones’ novel ‘Box Hill,’ the A24 drama follows a timid and sheltered man, Colin, who is swept off his feet by a handsome biker named Ray. It is written and directed by Harry Lighton and stars Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgård.

‘How to Make a Killing’ lands on June 19, a pitch-black comedic thriller written and directed by John Patton Ford of ‘Emily the Criminal’ fame, starring Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley, and Ed Harris. The story follows blue-collar worker Becket Redfellow, who was disowned at birth, and begins taking out his relatives as he closes in on the family inheritance.

Then, the audio-based horror movie ‘Undertone’ arrives June 26. The film follows a podcaster whose research into the paranormal invites an unfriendly force into her home. Ian Tuason’s idiosyncratic feature directorial debut lit up the festival circuit and inspired spirited debate amongst audiences.

Larry David Returns and Animation Gets a Major Boost

‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness’ premieres June 26 at 9 p.m. on HBO. The seven-episode sketch comedy, first announced last year, will feature David and other comedy stars reenacting famous moments from American history, in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday. David will write and executive produce the series alongside his ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ colleague Jeff Schaffer.

The series also carries an unexpected creative partnership, with Barack and Michelle Obama serving as executive producers. It marks Larry David’s first scripted comedy since ending ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’ The premise places David’s distinctly irritated perspective against some of the most celebrated chapters in American history, a combination that is either inspired or catastrophic, and quite likely both.

Animation fans have plenty to celebrate as well. ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 9 arrives June 15, while ‘My Adventures with Superman’ returns for a third season on June 14. HBO Max also expands its growing animation lineup with ‘Regular Show: The Lost Tapes’ on June 8.

New HBO Originals Rounding Out the Month

Beyond the major returning series, June brings several new HBO Original productions worth noting. ‘Bring Me the Beauties: A Model Cult’ lands June 1 as a three-part HBO Original docuseries tracing male supermodel Hoyt Richards’ decades inside the New York cult Eternal Values, led by self-proclaimed “alien walk-in” guru Frederick von Mierers. The group recruited models and young professionals through a belief system blending astrology and New Age spirituality, but what members found was financial exploitation, sexual coercion, and manipulation.

‘The Welcome Table’, directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Josh Fox, arrives June 23 as an HBO Original documentary telling the story of climate refugees across six continents, celebrating the voices and experiences of people on the front lines. Closing out the month on June 30 is ‘Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story’, an HBO Original documentary about New York City public access host Robin Byrd, who predated the internet and the ubiquity of social media influencers.

Classic Films and Additional Titles Complete the Lineup

The month’s film additions arriving June 1 include a broad range of titles such as ‘A History of Violence’, ‘Contagion’, ‘Hell or High Water’, ‘Isle of Dogs’, ‘Mid90s’, ‘Midsommar’, ‘Room’, ‘Stoker’, and ‘The Rock’. Later in the month, ‘Ready Player One’ joins the library on June 3, followed by ‘Gran Turismo’ on June 11.

HBO Max has also announced that starting on June 1, the platform will spotlight LGBTQ+ voices and stories with a curated lineup of series, films, and documentaries on its dedicated LGBTQ+ Collection Page. The initiative adds meaningful editorial context to the broader library refresh and runs throughout the entire month.

On the nonfiction side, ‘Disaster: The Chernobyl Meltdown’ arrives as a CNN Original on June 16, and ‘Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever’ lands as a CNN Original on June 18. With ‘House of the Dragon’ generating the bulk of the conversation heading into summer, it will be interesting to see which of the month’s quieter additions, whether Larry David’s historical reimaginings or Ian Tuason’s slow-burn horror, ends up generating the real word of mouth among subscribers, so share in the comments which June title you are most planning to watch first.
