New Look at ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Revealed as Poster Drops Ahead of October Premiere
The first official poster for It: Welcome to Derry is finally here, giving fans a new peek at the creepy world of Pennywise. The series will hit HBO this October and serve as a prequel to the It movies that came out in 2017 and 2019.

The show is based on Stephen King’s novel It and is set in the 1960s, years before the original films. According to Variety, the series is being developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, the same team behind the movies. It will explore the early days of Pennywise the Clown and how the nightmare in Derry began.
Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, and Stephen Rider lead the cast. Bill Skarsgård is also back as Pennywise, returning to the role that made him one of horror’s most iconic villains. Other actors like Dean Yool, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso will appear in recurring roles.
Filming started back in May 2023 in different parts of Ontario, including Toronto, Hamilton, and Port Hope. It shot under the fake title Greetings from Fairview. Production had to pause in July 2024 because of the SAG-AFTRA strike but was completed later that summer.
The show will have nine episodes, and Andy Muschietti is directing the first four. In May 2024, Deadline confirmed that Skarsgård would not only star but also help produce the series.
In an interview with Radio TU in January 2025, Muschietti shared that the show is inspired by the interlude chapters from King’s novel. He also said the story will stretch across three seasons. Each season will take place in a different time period: 1962, 1935, and 1908. “There’s a reason why the story is told backwards,” he said.
The series was officially greenlit in February 2023, and HBO announced it would be released in October 2025. Although it was first planned as an HBO Max exclusive, it’s now going straight to HBO as part of the network’s new release plans.
Now that the first poster is out, fans are getting even more hyped for the show. With Pennywise returning and a whole new timeline to explore, It: Welcome to Derry is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about horror series this fall.
