Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Sinks Its Teeth Into Stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp are joining forces again with director Robert Eggers for his next movie, Werwulf. This news comes from Nexus Point News, who report that both stars are set to lead Eggers’ upcoming horror film.
Werwulf is said to be a brutal werewolf story set way back in 13th-century England. According to reports, the movie will use Old English dialogue to help create its dark medieval world. Eggers will direct the film and also co-wrote the script with Sjón, who worked with him before on The Northman. Focus Features will handle the release.
Sources tell Nexus Point News that Taylor-Johnson will play the werewolf itself, while Depp will take on the role of his wife. The story reportedly involves witchcraft, and insiders say this could be one of Eggers’ most violent and graphic films yet. Filming is expected to kick off this September.
Robert Eggers became known for horror movies like The Witch, which starred Anya Taylor-Joy. After that, he directed The Lighthouse and The Northman. His most recent film was Nosferatu, which also featured both Taylor-Johnson and Depp.
Right now, Eggers is also working on other projects, including a sequel to the fantasy movie Labyrinth and a new version of A Christmas Carol. According to reports, Willem Dafoe might play Scrooge in that film.
Taylor-Johnson has been busy himself. He recently starred in 28 Years Later, directed by Danny Boyle, and before that, he appeared in Eggers’ Nosferatu as a character named Friedrich Harding. His past work includes action and drama films like Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Bullet Train, Godzilla, and Nocturnal Animals.
Lily-Rose Depp also worked with Eggers in Nosferatu, where she played Ellen Hutter. She’s known for roles in shows and films like The Idol, The King, and Voyagers.
Werwulf was first revealed back in January 2025, soon after Nosferatu was released. The film is scheduled for a Christmas 2026 release in North America. According to early details, this will not be a typical werewolf movie. Sources say Eggers plans to deliver something darker, mixing old folklore and horror in his own style.
As production draws closer, fans of Eggers’ slow-burn horror can likely expect another eerie and bloody story when Werwulf arrives in cinemas.
