Frank Castle has always been a character who resonates most deeply with those who have served, and Marvel is honoring that bond in a meaningful way ahead of the upcoming Disney+ special. Marine Corps Community Services Camp Pendleton has announced a free advance screening of ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ on May 5, a full week before it drops for the general public, welcoming active duty members, dependents, retirees, and Department of Defense civilians to the Camp Pendleton Theater and Training Center.

‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ is scheduled for its Disney+ premiere on May 12, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU, making this Camp Pendleton event a genuine advance look at one of Marvel’s most anticipated releases of the year. The timing feels less like a publicity stunt and more like a nod to the character’s identity at its core. Bernthal himself has spoken about the military and first responder communities being among those most hungry for an uncompromising version of Frank Castle, and giving them first access only underscores that relationship.

The project is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and co-written by Green and Jon Bernthal, marking Bernthal’s most hands-on creative role yet with the character he has played since his debut in the Netflix-era ‘Daredevil’ in 2015. The special is formatted as a Marvel Special Presentation, a single-episode format running anywhere between 45 and 60 minutes, and is expected to carry a TV-MA rating, consistent with the tone of the original Netflix series.

Bernthal has described the special as a visceral, psychologically complex take on Frank that refuses to flinch from the cost of violence, saying he is grateful Marvel is letting him go to the places he truly wants to explore with the character. In speaking with GamesRadar, Bernthal confirmed that the seminal Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic arc ‘Welcome Back, Frank’ served as the creative foundation for the special, calling it his north star throughout the writing process and praising how Ennis finds truth in the character without apologizing for him.

The special picks up after the events of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 1, in which Castle escapes an anti-vigilante task force, and is expected to follow Frank as he tries to leave behind a life of revenge before an unexpected conflict pulls him back in. Set photos from production revealed what appears to be involvement from the Gnucci crime family, potentially introducing the notorious Ma Gnucci, one of the most iconic adversaries from the comics.

The special also carries significant weight in terms of the broader MCU, as Bernthal filmed his scenes for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ immediately after wrapping, with both he and Tom Holland wanting the Punisher‘s portrayal to feel consistent across both projects. The Camp Pendleton screening puts soldiers and their families in the rare position of seeing exactly how that story begins before almost anyone else gets the chance, so if you are eligible to attend, the real question is whether you will be there with doors opening at 4pm on May 5.
