Mortal Kombat fans now have something to look forward to. Warner Bros. has dropped the first teaser for Mortal Kombat 2, and it confirms that Karl Urban is stepping into the role of Johnny Cage.

The movie is set to arrive in theaters on October 24, 2025. Directed by Simon McQuoid, who also made the first film, this sequel promises more action, more fights, and the brutal finishing moves that fans expect.

In the teaser, Johnny Cage shows off exactly why he’s one of Mortal Kombat’s most popular characters. After someone breaks his iconic sunglasses, Cage doesn’t waste any time. He goes after them with his usual style, fast punches and brutal kicks. Warner Bros. is clearly leaning into Cage’s big personality, and Karl Urban seems like a perfect fit for the role. People online are already talking about how well Urban captures the cocky, tough-guy attitude of Cage.

According to Warner Bros., Mortal Kombat 2 will bring back a lot of characters from the first film. Karl Urban leads the cast as Cage, but fans will also see Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod. This mix of returning heroes and new faces is meant to keep fans of the games happy, while also adding something fresh for the movie.

The teaser itself focuses on a fake movie called “Uncaged Fury,” where Johnny Cage fights a group of enemies after they mess with his shades. This short clip plays up Cage’s Hollywood ego while also showing that Mortal Kombat 2 isn’t afraid to mix comedy with its usual violent battles. Fans who loved Cage’s over-the-top personality in the games will likely enjoy what the movie is doing here.

Not much is known about the main story yet. Warner Bros. hasn’t shared plot details, but fans expect that Mortal Kombat 2 will finally show more of the actual tournament, which didn’t happen in the first film. Since Sub-Zero was taken down in the last movie, it looks like this sequel will focus on bigger battles and tougher enemies from Outworld.

Warner Bros. has confirmed that Mortal Kombat 2 will hit US theaters first and then release worldwide soon after. People who want to catch up can watch the 2021 Mortal Kombat film on HBO Max.

With Johnny Cage now officially part of the movie universe, fans can expect Mortal Kombat 2 to lean even more into the crazy action and wild characters that the franchise is known for.
